Re: ROH on SBG Discussion Thread
1/7/17
The show starts off with a brilliant promo from Christopher Daniels highlighted with clips from 2002. Your DOE winner is right here.
JAY BRISCOE vs. BJ WHITMER: Okay match. It's so sad to see Whitmer go from having white hot heat to just nothing. No surprise Briscoe wins and moves on in the DOE Tournament.
SILAS YOUNG/BEER CITY BRUISER vs. 2 guys I already forgot the name of. Young calls a pretty decent match. The finish is logical. You appear to cave a guy's chest in, you know, he's going to be pinned. Post match Bull James appearance and justified beatdown. This guy has no business being in ROH.
THE KINGDOM vs.CHEESEBURGER/J. DIESEL/LITTLE WILLY: I liked this match. I am becoming such a mark for Taven. He called a good match what he had to work with; young guys and sub par workers. Taven sells better than most guys, not only in ROH, but in all of wrestling. He made fucking Cheeseburger look believable with his offense, which is Goddamn near impossible. Taven is my guy to watch out for in 2017.
COLT CABANA vs. CHRIS SABIN: The match starts off as a plus with Alex Shelley on commentary. Cabana as a heel is growing on me. He has tweaked his character subtlety and I like that. Good match.
Pretty decent week. Storylines moved along nicely. I would remiss in mentioning The Young Bucks promo. It could have been cringe worthy but it wasn't because of how over they are.
Star Of The Week: Matt Taven
Bum Of The Week: Bull Fucking James

They are The Beaver Boys, Alex Reynolds and John Silver. Nice tag team, would be cool to see them back.Mr. Mojo Risin wrote:1/7/17

yep, these two had a very nice match. 15x better than Tempura Boys
Would like to see them again.

Re: ROH on SBG Discussion Thread
I was really underwhelmed by this week's episode.
When Silas attacking Bull James and the Bucks superkicking Vangard 1 are to two most noteworthy items, it makes you wonder...
By the way, if Dalton Castle beat Cabana at Final Battle, why were The Boys harassing him during his match? Kinda dishonorable of Sabin to use that to his advantage.

Ah, so that's The Beaver Boys! I wish Kevin Kelly would have said this. Agreed. I like what I saw. A day went by between my viewing and review. I would like to see them back too. For what it was, the match was better than it had any right to be.AlexROH wrote:They are The Beaver Boys, Alex Reynolds and John Silver. It was easily the weakest of the four episodes taped post Final Battle fwiw.Thomas Bobo wrote:I was really underwhelmed by this week's episode.

Weeks late with this comment but episode #275 with Fish/Ospreay, Ospreay/Scurll vs. the Bucks, and Ospreay/Scurll is quite possibly the second best TV ep of 2016.
Granted all of them are clipped to a degree, but these were the marquee matches driving VOD/DVD sales. That tradeoff though is exposing your audience to Ospreay and Scurll - which is a smart idea.

Re: ROH on SBG Discussion Thread
The current episode with a main event of Lethal-Liger is really solid.
This was quite enjoyable from start to finish.
Six-man opener was nice and I am interested in the Rebellion's attempted recruitment of Lio Rush.
The Marty Scurll video package ahead of his legit TV debut was fantastic. It was actually the most professional thing on the show, IMO.
The Cody pre-match mic work and then his bout with Corino was interesting. Storyline-wise, I think it was super. Tied a lot of holes together, but also left more questions to come.
Main event was fine stuff. I am not sure why ROH continues to push/feature Liger. I get he's a legend, but for a main event style match it lacked drama.
Next week's episode with Scurll and the high-flyer 3-way is something to look forward to.

Ospreay/Lee/KUSHIDA was really damn good. Can't wait for that Ospreay/Lee match.

Re: ROH on SBG Discussion Thread
Yeah, this weeks ROH TV is pretty fucking solid, in fact by the end of the week it could be the best show of any promotions. Everything was good, well thought out and almost everything built an angle or a character with the main event having a ton of hype for it. Ospreay and Dragon Lee are awesome additions to the roster.
Re: ROH on SBG Discussion Thread
That Marty Scurll promo video was amazing. He needs to wear that penguin mask to the ring, it's sick.
He has so much character, hopefully RoH gets behind him and capitalizes on his character.

Re: ROH on SBG Discussion Thread
Great episode this week. But argh, that shitty promo between Whitmer, Sullivan and Corino was bullshit, as always

Re: ROH on SBG Discussion Thread
Add my voice to the praise for this week's EP as well.
ROH has done a good job at progressively getting better each week in 2017 and I hope it can continue.
I do question why you have Ospreay get pinned in that match. The episode was built around the US TV debuts of both he & Scurll, so in my mind it would have seemed to make more sense (in looking at the show in isolation) to have both come out of it really strong.
I think Will still looked great, but there wasn't even a nugget to give me reason to see him vs. Dragon Lee at Manhattan Mayhem in terms of storyline development...

First footage from Center Stage, looks pretty good.
Re: ROH on SBG Discussion Thread
How long was Lethal-Briscoe III? I mean, will it be the only match on next week's ROH TV?
Re: ROH on SBG Discussion Thread
There were two matches before the match.

Yeah it's not super long.TYFDK wrote:There were two matches before the match.

Re: ROH on SBG Discussion Thread
So am I supposed to believe that Kevin Sullivan spent months being pointlessly cryptic with Steve Corino and deliberately not answering Steve's questions because he needed Corino's help to prevent the ghost of Dusty Rhodes from haunting ROH?

Paused right before the Marty/Juice match. Marty's theme is absolutely horrendous.
