Banzuke for Aki basho.

Hakuho Y1 Harumafuji
Kisenosato Y2 Kakuryu

Takayasu O1 Goeido
Terunofuji O2

Mitakeumi S Yoshikaze

Tamawashi K Tochiozan

Tochinoshin M1 Kotoshogiku
Hokutofuji M2 Aoiyama
Onosho M3 Chiyotairyu
Shohozan M4 Ura
Shodai M5 Takakeisho
Ichinojo M6 Kagayaki
Chiyonokuni M7 Ikioi
Chiyoshoma M8 Takarafuji
Takanoiwa M9 Arawashi
Ishiura M10 Takekaze
Daieisho M11 Chiyomaru
Daishomaru M12 Sadanoumi
Nishikigi M13 Kaisei
Endo M14 Okinoumi
Tokushoryu M15 Yutakayama
Asanoyama M16

Main storylines :
  • Once again, quite a few rikishi coming back after dropping out of the last basho (Kisenosato, Kakuryu, Terunofuji, Endo, and Ura even though he completed Nagoya while injured). Kakuryu is the most concerning considering his rank and the fact that he dropped out four times in the last seven basho (but also won one to be fair).
  • Pretty much as usual, two ozeki (Terunofuji and Goeido) are kadoban and will have to KK to keep their rank.
  • Kotoshogiku is back in the maegashira ranks after six and a half years in sanyaku.
  • How will Onosho fare at his highest rank ever and Asanoyama in his makuuchi debut?

Day 1 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lbwb7mpS15w

Quite the random first day with three yokozuna out (including Hakuho) + Aoiyama and Sadanoumi. Apparently, those guys could come back as early as tomorrow, but that's not exactly a good sign.
Lazy ass Ichinojo lost his first match. Good.
Damn, most of the sanyaku guys looked shaky as fuck today. Only Harumafuji and Takayasu (#1 and #2 by default) won.

Day 2 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maf_lz9siu0

This basho is quickly turning into a nightmare. Three serious injuries it seems like to add to the pile (Ura, Tamawashi and Takayasu) and I doubt they'll be there tomorrow. That would be EIGHT rikishi out (those five aren't coming back at all apparently) after only two days.

So that's Ura and Takayasu out.
Weird bout between Kotoshogiku and Harumafuji.

Day 5 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYVs66zyJSo

Well that was... something. Onosho is the sole leader followed by seven rikishi at 4-1.

Back to our storylines :

Once again, quite a few rikishi coming back after dropping out of the last basho (Kisenosato, Kakuryu, Terunofuji, Endo, and Ura even though he completed Nagoya while injured). Kakuryu is the most concerning considering his rank and the fact that he dropped out four times in the last seven basho (but also won one to be fair).
Well, Terunofuji is pretty much out after another shambolic display today, so that leaves us with only Endo still fit enough. He's 3-2 so far.

Pretty much as usual, two ozeki (Terunofuji and Goeido) are kadoban and will have to KK to keep their rank.
Again, Terunofuji won't last long and even if he fights through the pain, he's not keeping his rank. Goeido is doing much better (4-1), but doesn't look good either.

Kotoshogiku is back in the maegashira ranks after six and a half years in sanyaku.
He's 4-1 so he's doing perfectly fine.

How will Onosho fare at his highest rank ever and Asanoyama in his makuuchi debut?
Onosho is leading the yusho race with a perfect 5-0 and his first kinboshi today.
Asanoyama is 3-2

Day 6 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WutFLI5c5Hg

To the shock of absolutely no one, Terunofuji is out with an injury. On the other hand, Sadanoumi is back after missing the first five days.
Not a lot to say today. We now have four rikishi on top at 5-1, then a pack of twelve maegashira at 4-2.

Day 7 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7TWA7L5EuA

Some mean-ass bouts in the middle of nowhere today.
Same four guys in the lead with 6-1, now followed by four other rikishi at 5-2.

Man, this basho is so bland and the fact that the yusho race seems to be over already doesn't help.
Fun fact that kinda relates to pro wrestling : Enho at Sandanme 18 (that's the fourth division) could tie John Tenta/Earthquake's record of starting from the bottom of sumo with a perfect 21-0 record if he wins his next bout (a basho is only seven bouts in the fourth lower divisions).

Day 13 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vf69jvv163g

Well, this basho might finally get interesting if Goeido keeps fucking up for no reason. He's still in the lead with 10-3, followed by Harumafuji and a wild Asanoyama at 9-4.
