Official 'Saturday Night at Center Stage' TV Tapings Thread (2.10.18)

Post by TYFDK »

This was originally going to take place in Concord, NC, but because of a "change in production requirements," will now be taking place in Atlanta.

MATCHES

ROH World Television Title Match
Silas Young (c) vs. Kenny King
Image
At Final Battle 2017, Kenny King entered The Manhattan Center’s Hammerstein Ballroom World Television Champion and left following a shot to the head with a beer bottle by “Pro Wrestling’s Last Real Man” Silas Young. Young eliminated King and eliminated Punishment Martinez to become the new ROH World Television Champion.

King has been asking ROH matchmakers for weeks for his opportunity to face Young one-on-one in a rematch and he gets it in Atlanta!

Kenny King lost the ROH World Television Championship without being a part of the deciding fall at Final Battle. And the way he was eliminated following a shot to his head with a beer bottle has certainly left a bad taste in his mouth.

In Nashville, in a bout that will air on ROH television, Coast 2 Coast began to take the advantage on the new team of Brian Milonas and Beer City Bruiser before Young interjected himself. To counter Young’s interference, King ran ringside and evened the score! The original tag team bout was thrown out and instead replaced by a six-man tag team match.

With King already asking the ROH Board of Directors for a World Television Title match, the former champion’s case was bolstered when he pinned Young in the six-man tag match. Now, with a pin over Young in hand, King has a rock-solid case to be the number one contender and the Vegas native pushes his chips to the middle of the table in Atlanta!

Will King regain the ROH World Television Championship or will Young prove his pin at Final Battle could have happened without the beer bottle? Join us to find out!

Best Friends vs. The Briscoes
Image
Best Friends made an immediate impact during the War of the Worlds Tour when Chuckie T. pinned then-one-half of the ROH World Tag Team Champions Matt Jackson in his ROH debut! Chuck Taylor and Beretta heated up over the summer of 2017 and have proved they are worthy contenders for the ROH World Tag Team Titles!

In January in Nashville, Best Friends, who had a winning record in the New Japan World Tag League in late 2017, received a ROH World Tag Team Title shot against the Motor City Machine Guns. But, as they have done recently, the Briscoes interfered and interjected themselves into the match, leading to a no contest!

Best Friends, based on the no contest, believe they are still the number one contenders while The Briscoes have stated they have one goal in mind: number nine, their ninth ROH World Tag Team Championship! Instead of doing it in the ring, the Briscoes have leveraged violence with a hint of anarchy as a way to get what they want.

While this match is not explicitly a number one contender’s match, both teams clearly are among the top contenders for one of the most competitive championships in the world and this will go a long way in determining who will become the number one contenders for the Motor City Machine Guns!

Who will win this first-time Ring of Honor bout? Will Best Friends get their revenge for The Briscoes interrupting their tag team title shot or will The Briscoes bring their violence to the ring and assert themselves as the true number one contenders? Join us to find out!
Christopher Daniels vs. Hangman Page
Image
Adam Page is one-third of the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions but he has been proving his worth in singles and tag team competition as of late. At New Japan’s New Beginning, Page scored two pinfalls in two matches following his devastating Rite of Passage. Page challenged the new IWGP United States Champion Jay White following his victory over Kenny Omega but the situation led to more questions than answers.

And it is that confusion and vulnerability that the former ROH World Champion Christopher Daniels wants to take advantage of as he races against the clock after COO Joe Koff’s declaration that Daniels and Kazarian are gone once their contracts run out following Final Battle 2018!

Adam Page has been on an absolute roll as of late and the championship gold around his waist demonstrates that. ROHWrestling.com’s Breakout Star of 2017 as voted on by the fans has carried his momentum into 2018 and staked his claim to the number one contendership for New Japan’s United States Championship following Jay White’s win.

But Page’s actions may have been the straw the broke the camel’s back. The seemingly innocent move may have triggered something that had been boiling for months within Bullet Club.

And that is the opportunity SoCal Uncensored was seeking.

Daniels, Kazarian, and Scorpio Sky have been threatening to let everybody know “where the bodies are buried”, revealing expansion plans and trade secrets to friends and allies within different organizations. The threat was not seen as an idle one as COO Joe Koff interrupted the trio and told them that he would not fire them but instead let their contracts run out at Final Battle.

SoCal Uncensored, however, has added another layer to their game of chess: pick up big wins and championships and make themselves business-essential to add life to their ticking clock. And one way to get into the title picture is to make their mark against Bullet Club!

SoCal Uncensored defeated the trio of “American Nightmare” Cody, Marty Scurll, and Page on ROH Television and now Daniels has a chance to fire his shot in singles competition against Page in Atlanta!

In this first-time match-up, Daniels looks to continue SoCal Uncensored march toward ensuring themselves both chaos and a future in ROH with a win over a red-hot Page while Page looks to continue his winning ways with a win over a former ROH World Champion! Who will emerge victorious? Join us to find out!
SoCal Uncensored (Scorpio Sky & Frankie Kazarian) vs. The Young Bucks
Image
The Young Bucks are seemingly on top of the world. Two-thirds of the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions, the 2017 Tag Team of the Year as voted on by readers of ROHWrestling.com continue to break records in tag team action, among attendance records, t-shirt sales, and engaging fans on their popular web series Being the Elite.

But right now, The Young Bucks are at the center of an international Bullet Club controversy. Matt Jackson, who suffered a back injury at Wrestle Kingdom seemed to aggravate it at New Beginning in Sapporo in a match with Roppongi 3K and then again when he was pushed down in a moment of frustration by Kenny Omega. With question marks surrounding them, SoCal Uncensored sees this as the perfect time to get a major victory over the three-time former ROH World Tag Team Champions!

SoCal Uncensored defeated the trio of “American Nightmare” Cody, Marty Scurll, and Page on ROH Television and now Kaz and Scorpio Sky can fire their shot in tag team competition against The Young Bucks in Atlanta!

In this first-time match-up, Kaz and Sky look to continue SoCal Uncensored’s march toward ensuring themselves both chaos and a future in ROH with a win over a staggered Matt Jackson and a healthy Nick Jackson while the Bucks look to continue their winning ways as they march toward a fourth ROH World Tag Team Championship! Who will emerge victorious? Join us to find out!
The Dawgs vs. Coast 2 Coast
Image
Coast 2 Coast placed an ultimatum on themselves when they agreed that they needed a win or else they would split as a team. Shaheem Ali and LSG broke into professional wrestling together at the World Famous Monster Factory before winning match after match on Future of Honor. But they could not duplicate their success on Ring of Honor Television for almost a year’s time.

Until they dug into their reserve and found it within themselves to defeat two of the biggest, baddest stars Ring of Honor has ever seen in former ROH World and IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions War Machine! Although the victory that shocked the wrestling world shocked even themselves, this duo now is loaded with confidence and ready to make a big-time splash! But they will have to do so against a team that is on a bit of a roll themselves!

The Dawgs formed after discovering a mutual hatred of Cheeseburger but have found a tremendous amount of success on, first, internet exclusive bouts and, then, Ring of Honor Television. The duo is the last team to beat current IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Champions Roppongi 3K on US soil. They came up just short against the ROH World Tag Team Champions The Motor City Machine Guns but are looking to get back in the win column.

And Coast 2 Coast caught their attention in Nashville like a mailman coming on to their owner’s yard!

Coast 2 Coast went head to head with the new team of “Kingpin” Brian Milonas and Beer City Bruiser and showed once again that size can be equalized by speed, agility, and teamwork. When the match degenerated into a six-man tag and Coast 2 Coast picked up the victory with Kenny King, The Dawgs went ballistic!

The challenge has been issued, answered, and now two of the top up-and-coming teams of ROH will face each other in Atlanta! Which rising team will continue to climb the ladder? Join us in Atlanta to find out!

Well that's a bummer. King had one of the least interesting TV title reigns ever, I can't recall one title defense he had.

He was limping pretty heavily after his match with Lethal so it's possible he was injured.

I hope Gresham stays in ROH and is pushed.

PS, looking at picture, here's some people who were in the battle royale:

Best Friends
Coast 2 Coast
Josh Woods

And of course, the 4 who made it to the Final Four.

There are two others though I don't really know of.

Why even put the belt on Silas if you were gonna take it off him in less than two months?

Well, I'm glad Kenny got the belt back, he deserves more than what he got the first time around with one off title matches with Cheeseburger, Joey Ryan, Scorpio Sky and Caprice. Not sure why people love Silas so much more, but I hope these two fued for a while, it feels like a natural match up.

Neither of the last two TV title runs have been very good. It's also odd that Cheeseburger has an upcoming title shot (not sure the logic behind that given that King now has the title again).

Also, this feels a little like Bobby Fish's TV title run -- they put the title on him just before his contract ended in the hopes of keeping him long-term. If Silas is truly a free agent, perhaps negotiations to keep him aren't going well.

Cheeseburger should still be due a TV Title shot, technically. Just because the champion changed doesn’t mean the contenders do.

I know; I just meant that it's odd that Cheeseburger would get that shot against King versus leaving the title on Silas, giving Cheeseburger the shot during these TV tapings (although reportedly he was under the weather which is why he didn't make the Concord card), and having Silas drop the title back to King at the anniversary show next month.

Never been happier to see you in a thread than right now. Please tell me Gresham isn't going anywhere.

Also, looks like we've got a few feuds brewing:

- Shane Taylor vs. Hangman Page
- Marty Scurll vs. Punishment Martinez (announced for PPV)
- BCB and Kingpin vs. Coast 2 Coast
- TV Title match between Kenny King and Flip Gordon
- Also, Flip Gordon vs. Scorpio Sky (finally). Wouldn't be shocked to see King vs. Gordon vs. Silas vs. Sky for TV Title

If I could be so bold to interpret: it looks like rovert was asking mafia to cite his sources either because rovert thinks its a worthwhile practice to generally credit reporting or to credit rovert themself for bringing it up. The discourse, and all that.

But yeah, if Gresham does leave ROH is officially on FOH notice from me.

I'm sure 16YA will be another solid show, but God do I just not care for any of this build. Bullet Club also goes 3-0 during the tapings, credit to the assist of Bury the Bear, a costume in a Bullet Club shirt because that is the state of the American pro-wres scene. Switching the title to Kenny King while also building Flip as the next challenger also worries me deeply about Silas. Like, what on earth are they doing with him? Why are they so vindictive against their midcard?
