Suffocation review

Not sure where the name for this show comes from. Is someone going to try and suffocate someone? Let's see...

Homicide and Joe are high as kites (Joe laughing about the Corino/Dusty comparison was classic). Aries wants revenge on Rigatoni Castagnoli

Sal Rinauro vs Bryan Danielson.......Rave corners Sal in this non title match. Bryan runs right through Rinauro, finishing him off with elbows and a small package. Jimmy Rave tosses Sal out of the ring and calls out his opponent. Bryan must of had a plane to catch to be the first match of the night.

Shingo vs Jimmy Rave.......Shoulder block sends Rave to the outside. Shingo doesn't do much out there though. Rave applies a chinlock, hits a knee to the gut and gets 2. Low blow as he distracts the ref keeps Jimmy on the offensive. DDT for 2 followed up with a submission attempt. A powerbomb lays Jimmy out but Shingo can't keep it going. Ghanarhea for another close fall. A torture rack driver by Shingo gets 2. Huge clothesline followed up with a wrist clutch burning hammer earns the Blood Warrior the pinfall. The match was good enough but Shingo was on the defensive for 80% of it.

Brent Albright introduces himself and says will make a point in his debut against the Fallen Angel.

Colt Cabana & Jimmy Jacobs vs Irish Airborne........Before the bell BJ Whitmer announces he will be stalking Jacobs until his leg is rehabbed. Scarrrrrrry. Colt wants to play Hacksaw Jim Duggan and play games early on. Jake Christ is kept on the outside while Dave is isolated. Jimmy plays the second to Colts antics most of the match. Back senton by Jacobs gets a 2 count. Cabana gets kicked to the outside and an ugly rollup finish to counter the Conra Code ends it. I don't really like the Christ brothers but they needed the win and Lacey can now continue to scream at Jacobs for storyline purposes.

Another new guy, Tank Toland, is here tonight. Pelle Primeau though recognizes him as one of the Dicks from that other fed.

Christopher Daniels vs Brent Albright.......Brent is pretty jacked by ROH standards. He focuses his attack on the arm of Daniels. Slow and methodical attack by the newcomer. The STO and a step up enziguri give Daniels some momentum until a belly to belly suplex and a northern lights suplex give Albright the 2 count. A Rock Bottom by Chris followed up with the Best Moonsault Ever. Amidst a pinfall attempt, brent locks in a cross armbreaker that almost makes Daniels tap. The Fallen Angel gets the win after reversing the La Magistral. Albright hesitates but eventually shakes Daniels hand. Very impressive debut for Brent Albright. The match was well paced and even in defeat, Brent got over.

Tank Toland vs Chris Hero vs Mark Briscoe vs Roderick Strong.....Good to see some fresh faces in a 4 way. Apparently, and according to Jimmy Bower, Mark lost his teeth in a bar fight. the match was a typical 4 way encounter. Toland wasn't showcased much for a debut match. Strong was the babyface and he ends up making Hero tap to a Boston Crab. Claudio runs in to help his partner jump Roddy which prompts Aries to run down and the next match begins. Wasn't a fan of the 4 way by the way.

Claudio Castagnoli vs Austin Aries.....heat seeking missile connects early on. Back and forth match really with lots of 2 counts. Aries wins with the 450 splash. So, let me get this straight....the new tag champions were both pinned or tapped cleanly Not a good way to get them over. Match was forgettable at best.

Backstage, Lacey threatens Jacobs again if he doesn't start winning. Cabana laughs it off and then BJ attacks Jimmy.

Jay Briscoe vs Davey Richards......On paper this a good tough match. Jay takes his licks in the form of chops of leg strikes early on. Davey gets caught though and winds up in a stretch plum. They fight on the top rope, exchange punches and after a toss to the outside, Davey runs the ropes and launches thru with a suicide dive. Cradle suplex and an STO get Davey a 2 count. Saito suplex, German suplex, another 2 count. Jay driller attempt is reversed into the D.R Driver to get Richards a big win. Good match by these two. Not sure why jay took the loss though.

Matt Sydal vs Delirious......rematch from the SOTF finale a few shows back. The match was more of a time filler with half the action as most of their encounters. Sydal exposes the weakness delirious has of a bell ringing mid match. The match actually runs a good twenty minutes and the Chemical Imbalance gets the win for Lizard man. OK match, dead crowd though killed it. These two need new storylines ASAP

Homicide & Samoa Joe vs Steve Corino & Adam Pearce.....Corino's hair makes him look like a skunk. And he's pretty fat here! Homicide is cornered early on. Corino chokes him with the tape. Joe gets tagged in a gets a facewash on Steve. Pearce with a dropkick though puts the heels back in control. Homicide hits the tope con hilo on his opponents outside and then a fight ensues through the crowd. The Notorious one frog splashes Corino through a table. The Joe combo ends with a back senton on Pearce. Ace Crusher off the top by Homicide for 2. Spinebuster from Pearce for 2. Cornette's racket is brought in and it lands in Joes hands so he can whack Pearce with it. Hagadorn gets involved but is taken out with a double team suplex. Joe powerbombs Corino through a table and then gives Adam the muscle buster. Lariat pins him in a decent main event.

The Briscoes run down with a bag. THERE IT IS. Corino is trying to suffocate Homicide. Prazak is freaking out which makes this almost unbearable. The ROH locker room empties and a big brawl ensues. the crowd deflated the moment though.

I have to be honest, I didn't like this show much at all. Besides some new faces there was nothing memorable, even with a rehashed Funk/Flair/plastic bag finish. Thanks for reading!

Yeah, this was the "worst" of the Dayton shows at the time. Until a couple years later when we got the one-two punch of Battle for Supremacy and Escalation... oh god, Escalation...
