HonorClub Thread - ROH's Streaming Service

Post by Montana »

HonorClub is ROH's official (and first) over-the-top streaming service. Included are live streams of a variety of events (iPPVs and house shows), matches from the vault, and membership discounts. A premium tier, at a yearly subscription with an added $20, gives you access to live PPVs.
AlexROH wrote: Fri Feb 02, 2018 3:12 pm Ring of Honor is proud to officially announce HonorClub.
With the imminent launch of HonorClub, the Ringside Membership will be deprecated to make way for this new and improved HonorClub. In addition to live streaming ROH Pay Per Views and On Tour events, and a vast on demand library, HonorClub will be the destination to connect wrestling fans with exclusive content, offers, and more.

LIVE STREAMING & VOD

Ring of Honor will begin live streaming ROH On Tour events! Live events will also be accessible anytime as part of the VOD library which also includes complete access to the ROH TV Archive, and the VOD Vault containing historical events, compilations, interviews, and more. Standard Memberships will include a 50% discount on ROH’s major Pay Per Views when bought digitally, however an Annual VIP Membership will include all Pay Per Views for FREE!

EXCLUSIVE FEATURES

HonorClub memberships also include exclusive access to all ROH event ticket pre-sales and 15% off all ROH-branded products in the ROH Pro Shop, in addition to any other discounts or sales. Many fans have also asked about the ROH Forum, and even though there is a large world of social media, there is nothing like having an intimate ROH community to engage with. The ROH Forum returns as an exclusive to HonorClub members!

PRICING & RINGSIDE MEMBERSHIP ROLLOVER

Ringside Members will automatically become an HonorClub member until their subscription expires. At that time, previous members can decide how they would like to proceed with their HonorClub membership. The various plans will include both monthly and annual options for the Standard Membership. Fans can choose whether they would like to pay $9.99 per month or a discounted $99.99 for the entire year. However, for the ultimate Ring of Honor experience, fans will have the option to purchase an Annual VIP membership for just $119.99. This package includes all of the wonderful features of the Standard Membership, but it also gives you free access to all ROH Pay Per Views!
Below are the events currently found in the library.

The "more than a network" tagline implies that it's (finally) the launch of their streaming network. Really hoping for a deep library of events.

Do the right thing and start the library at Tag Team Turmoil, not a drop before that.

If they do that then their idiots. That's just bad business and is asking a lot.

Here's what I do know though and have stated many times as I was told by someone who works in ROH's back office and this was early last year, ROH hired someone to remaster and edit every single event to upgrade the video quality and edit out all unlicensed music they were using, so all video quality will be improved on and not just direct rips from their back catalogue of DVD's.

You cannot do a streaming service in 2018 and not provide something close to live events as part of the cost. If all Honor Club is is the back catalog remastered, it will be a miserable failure and a joke.

I expect either (a) show your events live for members, then they have to pay. I say this based on the War of the worlds experiment this past October, where two events were free and live for Ringside Members, but after that you had to buy the VOD. Joe Koff even mentioned it, so I think that is what they will do. Live for free, pay for it after. OR (b) something like Club WWN or UFC Fight Pass, where you don't get the events live as part of the cost, but you get them on a two week to one month delay.

In this world, where you can get the WWE Network (9.99) with all events part of the cost, NJPW World (999 yen) will all events part of the cost, Club WWN (9.99) with events on a two week delay, and Demand Progress (7.49) with events on a two week delay, you have to give Honor Club something more than just remastered old events. I lean more towards (a) above, but (b) would be okay too. But it no longer works to make members pay for individual events in the current climate. Roh could not be that stupid.

Is anyone optimistic that the subscription will include the PPVs? They'll be the only "not all parts included" OTT service I can think of if they decide to go that route.

I'm inclined with a lot of the assumptions of this being a VOD-driven service with a huge delay for the PPVs and archived episodes. Live iPPVs during the cross-talent shows, and slow trickle of pre-SBG tapes.

It will be interesting to see if the greater access to what we think of as VOD shows will affect booking. Perhaps this will lead to more particular storytelling during tours (like Hiromu getting Darryl over during the G1).

Anyone have an update? I noticed that ROH is not advertising the 3/9 Anniversary show as a PPV to purchase yet. Maybe that will be the first PPV available through the streaming service?

Unfortunately there is not much information about the service. We know it'll be an OTT service and that it'll launch sometime in late winter or spring. Other than that ROH's been mum on the subject. (I wouldn't consider live PPVs a guarantee on the service.)

Does anyone have the total cost of all ROH PPV, iPPV, and VOD shows in 2017?

Because I'm pretty sure this is an absolutely massive savings for people who bought every show, even factoring in Ringside discounts.

This HAS to result in a significant web site upgrade at launch. Speed, seamless log in, pleasant visuals, an actual mobile version. Make the first impression for this service count, especially for lapsed viewers and curious newbs interested in the rich library content.

More or less, counting every VOD and PPV (with their discount) and the anual Ringside suscription (59,99$) you have a total of 396$.

Honor Club VIP is 120$, wow!
