Nailed it on how dry current indies are for storylines and characters compared to Sapolsky’s ROH. Especially with the in-ring largely being globally homogenized, I already get a fair amount of workrate from WWE, and in the midst of an NJPW boom period, I struggle to make any connection with current indies. There’s nothing as intriguing as Raven vs. Punk, which while nowhere near an epic all-time angle, had a clear beginning, middle, and end, star power (both proven and on the cusp), tremendous mic workers, and clear character motivations. I’d much rather gave that with a couple ****+ gems on the card, than just a card with ****+ gems and absolutely no storyline nuance.

Matt and Trevor are alive, and ThROH The Years is here to share thoughts on The Epic Encounter. Does London/Danielson 3 live up to expectations? Who was the Midnight Rider? Does the man on woman violence streak continue? We answer all these questions covering a show that features Dusty Rhodes, an amazing Paul London promo, and a Bar Room Brawler.
