I'm also so sick of all this "mental health" shit. It's not mental health, it's young people's obsession with Social Media. It's fucking terrible. Cesspool. Uninstall the apps. You will feel so much better. None of my kids have any social media and they are really mad at my wife & i but it's for the good.

It's true. Everyday we have another famous person quitting twitter because they were harassed or having breakdown from vile stuff thrown at them. Look at Naomi Osaka,Sloane Stephens and Shelby Rogers from the other day. You have young people on their phones all day posting and reading vile things from people non stop. You think social media is a good thing? I'm almost 40. I grew up without social media. We didn't have people quitting their profession because of mental health and if we did it was few and from between. Kids now a days aren't allowed to grow up. Stuff is thrown at them at young ages that they can't handle and they break mentally. I was 16 when i saw my first dirty mag...now a days 13 year olds are 3 clicks away from hardcore porn.

I'm 35 so I'm not too much younger than you and this take is hot garbage. The stress and demands of modern day life are higher than ever. You also don't know people's stories at all. You assume you do, but then look at the lengths Big E's story went to on the New Day Pod. He's talked about mental health in the past and he's been vague about it which leads to these absurd takes -- "just quit social media bro." Okay, well the issues were there before that and went to the length of needing hospitalization and medication. It's hardly social media.

Also, being 3 clicks away from hardcore porn is not social media. So glad you saw your first dirty magazine at 16. People in my middle school had them. Different people have different experiences and their own anecdote is not indicative of society as a whole.

What's really happening is that we're quantifying mental health issues which people 10, 20, 30 years ago just described as being "burnt out" and "run down." It's more than that and just taking a week off from work doesn't help those things when you go right back into the same situation when you come back.

I'm not denying that certain people have mental health problems...they do and i hope they find help and get better but getting upset at something and claiming mental health is now happening way too much. Fail at something....mental health. Act out or say something bad...mental health. It's a cop out. Worker harder. We all know if Atlas didn't get buzzed sunday he would of worked ROH TV tapings and kept his other bookings but after getting released from WWE and getting messed up sunday he decided to call it a day. He can't say he failed at wrestling career or quit..it has to be mental health so he and others like him can get sympathy. If you don't see that...then oh well.

You know Jake Atlas was talking about mental health before Sunday, right? He specifically said he didn't handle pressure well on September 8th with Denise Salcedo.

You very clearly have dug in your heels on mental health just being this catch-all excuse people just throw out when things get tough so nothing I'm going to say is going to change your mind. But, for your sake, please pay more attention to what's going on so you don't make a fool of yourself claiming a guy is just using mental health to get sympathy when he was literally talking about it days before his news broke that sent your focused outrage into overdrive.

I literally don't know what more you would want for Jake Atlas short of notes from his therapist.

It wouldn’t surprise me if his situation in WWE really took its toll overall and the other night just confirmed something for him. In wrestling it feels like it can be more of a fight for yourself even in the ring and if you don’t have that fight , for whatever reason I think it becomes a very unsafe place for everyone. Over the years one thing has been very true in ROH your charachter in ring will be tested, I remember a couple of years ago a great match with Bandido and Jay Briscoe, Jay tested Bandido, he brought him up a level that night in a lot of ways but you could see in Bandido how he reacted to test positively. For all we can rag on ROH there can be a real physicality compared to a lot of other promotions and you’ve got to love to want it all the time.

He’s doing what’s best for him in the long run and that’s the most important thing, good luck to him is really all that’s needed.

We literally just saw a wrestler live stream their last will and testament with a gun in her hand and then take her own life and people are up in here criticizing a wrestler trying to focus on their mental health?

There really are some lowlifes on this site. God damn.

And Hana Kimura killed herself because she was bullied online but i'm being told social media has nothing to do with anything. Which is it? I started this by saying social media is a huge problem with mental health. Then i had people tell me to STFU and that it was "hot garbage". It's not. People are more depressed when they spend their lives on social media wanting likes and attention. They make life decisions on if it will be loved or hated by random users.

Which is it, man? Are you blaming social media or do people just use mental health as a crutch to get out of things?

Wait. Don't answer. Because both are nonsense.

For social media, as I already stated, you have someone like Big E discussing his issues WHICH PREDATE SOCIAL MEDIA.

For mental health as an excuse, you literally threw somebody under the bus for this when they had been open about it before quitting.

Despite what some people say, it's not a world of snowflakes that get melted by social media. People have serious problems sometimes and life in 2021 means that we can talk about it and we can choose to do other things for our own sanity and health. Stop shaming people for doing so.

Your original comment on the subject definitely came off as if you felt mental health isn't real and social media is 100% to blame. I agree that social media can exacerbate those issues. I think we can all agree that mental Haigh issues can be a serious problem and is different for each individual. I wish Jake Atlas the best and hope he decides to return to pro wrestling down the line.

Most people under 30 are extremely weak minded and take social media too seriously. “Some guy wearing a Spider-Man outfit said I was ugly, time to hurt myself”. “I’m not a good wrestler because Joe637389292012 said so, whaaaaaaaaaa”

Blaming the youth for weakness has been a historical trope as long as there has been a written record.

Great take. Cutting edge stuff.

Do you ever interact with them? Most of them think they’re gods gift to humanity and expect you cater to their needs. I wasn’t like that. Go to a local mall and observe how they act. They’re shitty.

It was late last night and I re-read my first post and you are correct. I came off like I didn't believe people have real mental health issues. Both issues are real and I feel like it just goes one way with no real talk of dangers/ obsession of social media.

I don't think anyone is going to argue that social media isn't a piece of the problem, but I think it's a LOT more than that and destigmatizing talking about it is why we're seeing it so frequently now.

Not even going to engage with the other response.
