The Different Faces of ROH

Post by yomadcool »

WWE had their top guys for their different time periods. In order they were:

Bruno Sammartino
Bob Backlund
Hulk Hogan
Bret Hart
Shawn Michaels
Stone Cold Steve Austin
The Rock
Brock Lesnar
Triple H
John Cena
Roman Reigns

For Ring of Honor who would the different faces for ROH be in order?

2002-March 2003- Low Ki

March 2003-November 2005- Samoa Joe (Maybe throw Aries in there during his title reign, Punk too, but I still thought Joe was the main attraction at those points.)

November 2005-February 2007- Bryan Danielson (I guess you could throw Homicide in for his reign too but it was just so short I didn't bother.)

February 2007-October 2007- Takeshi Morishima

October 2007-June 2009- Nigel McGuinness

June 2009-September 2010- Austin Aries/Tyler Black

September 2010-May 2012- Davey Richards

May 2012-June 2013- Kevin Steen

June 2013-June 2015- Adam Cole/Michael Elgin/Jay Briscoe

June 2015-Present- Jay Lethal

Everyon's pretty much got it right except I would consider Steen's time as the guy from when he won the title to his departure. Just like a John Cena in WWE, he didn't need any championship to be the face of the company he was so over.

I would start the Steen era even before he won the title, as he was way more over than Davey and the top heel in the top segments of every show. I'd start it when he came back at FB 2011, as this was also about the time that a lot of people started to get tired of the Davey/Eddie deal.

This feels right to me. I think there's another Cole era coming.

We all agree that the first face of ROH was Low Ki from the first show until when Joe won the title where he then became the new face of the company. But who was the face after Joe and when did it start. Was it Punk with the Summer of Punk, Danielson when he won the title in '05, or Homicide during the feud with Steve Corino

Joe continued being the face through the first half of 2005, then Punk did during his farewell tour title reign, then Danielson took over.

There was no face of the company between Punk's initial departure and Danielson's coronation. It's very clear when watching Night of the Grudges II and Dragon Gate Invasion.

So it went From Ki to Joe to Punk to Danielson. After Danielson would it be Homicide until he lost the World title to Morishima or was Danielson still the face of the company until his departure or until Nigel won the world title?

I'd say Danielson was the face of the company until Nigel won the belt, yeah.

That would definitely be accurate. The lack of a true franchise is one of many reasons Pearce failed in replacing Sapolsky too.

After Nigel left that's where it gets tricky. It seems like they were trying to build up Strong, Black, and Richards as the face as well as an Aries comeback. I would say Black was the face until Nigel left and was still the face of the company until he left where he was replaced by Richards

After Richards was definitely Steen. But was Steen the face of ROH till his departure or until he lost the title to Jay Briscoe?

I don't think he had long enough to really establish one, but you could certainly argue that Aries was close. He also got the ball rolling for Steen and Davey as well.

I feel like Aries was there just to bridge eras. After McGuinness and Danielson left I think Tyler Black was pushed as the face of the company until his departure where Richards would became the face right after

Who was the face after Steen. Was it Briscoe where he won the title the first time until he lost it to Lethal or was it Cole where he won the belt till he lost at Final Battle 2014 to Briscoe?
