Women of Honor Thread
Re: Women of Honor Thread
Cutting Deonna down to a 20 second clip is utterly demeaning. I understand it was a busy show, but this is indefensible when trying to establish a new title. This isn't some Top Prospect match between two filler talent. It's beyond incompetent to truncate a match featuring one of the States' best women's wrestlers.
The state of the division has been so grim that even the promise of a title hasn't curried any favors. They can't relegate matches to the YouTube hole-in-the-ground. They can't continue to leave them off PPVs. They can't push talent reminiscent of the mid-aughts like Mandy and Brandi as centerpieces.

Re: Women of Honor Thread
why did they show the end of the matches? why go watch the match when theyve already spoiled the finish?

I hope there's some tension between Purrazzo and Dashwood during the match that they can later pay off in the tournament final.

How fucking dumb of ROH to do this to their best in ring competitor. It's insulting to Deonna Purrazzo and don't blame her for posting it. Great way to undermine the importance of the tournament by treating her match as an afterthought.Wilson wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2018 3:17 pm Cutting Deonna down to a 20 second clip is utterly demeaning. On commentary this week Riccaboni said the WOH first round matches can be seen "exclusively on Honor Club, sign up now!"

Re: Women of Honor Thread
Mandy Leon can have a decent match with Kelly Klein, provided she's healthy. Klein can hide a lot of her weaknesses. Mandy's showing in the first round was undeniably ugly, though. Very poor for her standards, which aren't high to begin with.
Mayu vs Deonna is going to be amazing if they give it the proper time. This is the kind of match up that they need to be showcasing. This is what they should want people to think about when they hear the name Women of Honor.

Completely forgot Jenny Rose vs. Kagetsu was to take place in Stardom. With the muted crowd and the solo commentary, the match sort of feels Memphis-y. It's a cool thing.
Also, is there any particular reason why no one ever, ever, ever talks about Jenny Rose? Considering where she was trained, I think she's pretty good.

She's okay. That's why nobody talks about her.
She's not pushed beyond her abilities like Mandy Leon.
She's not visibly worse than everyone else like Brandi Rhodes.
She's not fantastic like Deonna Purrazzo.
She's not a big star like Tenille Dashwood.
She's not a technically sound, physically imposing monster like Kelly Klein.
She's not an ROH OG like Sumie Sakai.
She's not a flashy guest appearing courtesy of STARDOM.
She's just an okay wrestler doing decent work. She has her place.

Jenny has never had a match beyond "good". It is really odd.
I've seen valets, 00s era Divas and celebrities have a higher register match quality wise than Rose.
After Wrestling so extensively in Japan she should be better than she is. But her matches have this quality cap on them.

Jenny Rose is adequate. Kinda like the 2nd season of Jessica Jones. Just there. Nothing more, nothing less.

Do they have no rules, or at least no DQ's in Stardom?Wilson wrote: ↑Fri Mar 16, 2018 2:09 pm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFq8s9pcIXU
Completely forgot Jenny Rose vs. Kagetsu was to take place in Stardom.
Kagetsu's cronies choked Jenny in front of the ref, and Kagetsu even spit in his face.
This referee looked like a complete joke, with no authority whatsoever.

That's unfortunately the way it has become in basically every non-WWE promotion now.Duke of Bridgewater wrote: ↑Mon Mar 26, 2018 12:15 pmDo they have no rules, or at least no DQ's in Stardom?Wilson wrote: ↑Fri Mar 16, 2018 2:09 pm https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFq8s9pcIXU

Mayu vs Deonna from TV this week was outstanding. Best match in Women of Honor so far.

Re: Women of Honor Thread
So since Mayu didn't win back the World of Stardom title from Toni at the Nagoya show I feel like she is winning this thing so she's free to work ROH shows whenever they need her to.

If Mayu sticks around they've got a hell of a main event scene.
Mayu, Deonna, Dashwood, and Klein are all fantastic.

Huge congratulation to Sumie Sakai.
