His use of the word “also” probably means that the Ladder War is being put on trial, which I think was not a great match by nearly any measure.JigsawVs.Jason wrote:I really hope you're not talking about the FB 2010 match, that match is utter perfection and spots being predictable is a ridiculous lame argument, if a match has tremendous psychology and storytelling, it does not have to be unpredictable, that's what Russo is probably thinking everytime he booked TNA stuff: Well that would be the obvious right thing to do, naahhh too predictable, let's throw in a swerve...jordidebaas wrote:I'd also say Steen vs. Generico. Was one of the first so many ROH matches I think I ever watched, and I thought it was really predictable (as in, you could see a lot of the big spots coming).
ROH Matches that you feel are overrated
Re: ROH Matches that you feel are overrated
O’Reilly/Cole is the quintessential breakout match. Not much more you can ask for with that in mind.

Ok, I thought that was tremendous too, but might not be everybody's cup of tea.

Yeah, I meant the ladder war. I don't think you should sacrifice good booking for the sake of doing surprising things, but when you're wrestling a match, and you can see spots coming a few minutes before they happen, that's not really good for the match

Re: ROH Matches that you feel are overrated
I disagree, but obviously that depends on the actual context. Matches with sound psychology often resort to moves you see coming miles ahead just because it is the right thing to do according to the story told in the ring and the psychology employed. Hence, predictable does not entail being bad for the match IMO.jordidebaas wrote:Yeah, I meant the ladder war. Re: ROH Matches that you feel are overrated
I agree on Bucks vs reDRagon at WOTW. I really liked it, but by no means did I think it was MOTY for ROH. Overrated.
The other one that comes to mind is Do Fixer vs Blood Generation. The match was certainly awesome, but I don't think it is the greatest match in ROH history like a number of people claim. I'm not sure I even put it in my top 5. I thought the end was the definition of a spotfest that went on way too long. Again, it's really fun match but I think it's often overrated.
I'd also put Black vs Richards from DBD VIII on the list because the finishing stretch went way too long and by the end my disbelief was completely unsuspended.

I did not really like Claudio/Morishima, In fact I think Albright/Morishima is one of the most underrated matches in ROH history.

Austin Aries vs Kenny Omega and Davey vs. Omega ugh Kenny Omega is my least favorite wrestler ever sooooooooo lame.
Re: ROH Matches that you feel are overrated
Joe vs. Kobashi. Yes, I said it.
Not that it's not great, but I can't give it five stars. I think for many, it gets rated that high just because Kobashi was in America.

Couple of "new" additions:
Davey Richards vs. Tyler Black (Death Before Dishonor 2010)
- Great match, but not the classic I remembered it being. ***3/4
The Young Bucks vs. reDRagon (War of the Worlds 2014)
- Great match, but not as good as their other matches IMO. ***3/4
Adam Cole vs. AJ Styles (War of the Worlds 2015 Night 1)
- Another great match, but not as good as I thought it would be. ***1/2.

Re: ROH Matches that you feel are overrated
Just to name a few offhand: Davey vs. Eddie from both Best in the World 2011 and Final Battle 2011 (much more in the case of the latter), AJ and Cole at ASE last year (I much preferred their recent WOTW match), and Daniels vs Cole from Glory By Honor last year.

Did anybody rate the Final Battle match highly?
Re: ROH Matches that you feel are overrated
No. Davey vs Eddie at Final Battle 2011 is not overrated; it's reviled.

Re: ROH Matches that you feel are overrated
Maybe in these parts but particularly from the likes of Dave and Bryan. I think Bryan went ****1/2 on it then complained about the 10YAS main event being too long (the latter was shorter.)Burnside wrote:No. Davey vs Eddie at Final Battle 2011 is not overrated; it's reviled.
Re: ROH Matches that you feel are overrated
The 10YA main event WAS too long. If it's remembered favourably for anything, it's for Cole getting a win that nobody saw coming.
That, and Steen verbally bitchslapping Davey afterwards.

Retarded spotfest is all I have to say about it and the "Tombstone your own partner" spot was one of the worst things I've ever seen in wrestling. Unfortunately, the Bucks inevitably see comments like this on Twitter and use them as an excuse to come up with more dumb spots.
the match was fun as shit live and the crowd was going crazy. I went with people that weren't huge fans and that match was their big takeaway from the night
