Pick A Year

Post by 9 ball »

I am a relatively new ROH fan & have only been watching the tv product since August last year but really enjoy it as it's something vastly different than what I've watched in the past, ordered & loved Final Battle 2014 on demand & was wondering:

I want to start collecting the PPV DVD's & maybe a couple of compilations & was wondering as far as PPV's go which year would you say is the best to start with.

I understand that this is all subjective but would just like other fans perspectives on the subject to make an informed choice.

Very amusing Lemo, and I am sure made this new member feel very welcome.

Glad you are enjoying ROH 9 Ball.

ROH has not done many TV ppvs at all. They have done many IPPV's though. It sounds to me though as if you are just looking for great shows from recent times. There is a really great site run by one of our board members here, Mcxal, which basically reviews every ROH show fully, match by match. It might be a good idea to look at the recent reviews and see which show appeals.

If you wanted to get earlier shows then I also found this buyers guide to ROH useful many years back.

Supersonic on this site does a SUPERB analysis of earlier ROH on this thread.

As I said above, Mcxal's site is the best place to start due to reviewing recent shows.

I have not finished working my way through 2014's dvds but I enjoyed Supercard of Honor 8 due to a very good match between Elgin and Steen, and a brutal main event ladder match between Cole and Briscoe. I also enjoyed 2014's Best in the World. Many people on here would cite War of the Worlds as the ROH show of last year but I found it slightly overrated (though still very good).

Delirious took over booking ROH in late 2012 and his first show was Glory by Honor 11. That's still available on dvd on the ROH website for $12.99. It features a cracking match between Richards and Lethal, a very good Edwards/Cole match and what I still think is Elgin's best match in ROH against Kevin Steen. For that price it's worth picking up.

The compilations by the way are brilliant value. There was a short thread regarding the best of them here.

I hope this helps. ROH has such a rich history so there is a lot to discover. Hope you enjoy.
