It's a nice arena, not too big, not too small, they've gotten good crowds into it twice, why change what's not broken?AssShooter wrote:Even with the problems they had with the lights, they run the Tennessee State Fairgrounds again ?...
Re: Ring of Honor Events Schedule Thread
A 'fuckin' men. Most people would call it that on general principle, but I had enough bad things happen the times I was there, especially with it's corrupt police system, that it could get swallowed up by an earthquake and my only recommendation would be to salt the earth where it used to be to make sure nothing ever comes back there, including plant life.sg86 wrote: This is a bit of a different scenario. Last year's was really in the middle of nowhere. Wheeling is a shit town but its 2 hours from Columbus, 2.5 from Cleveland, less than 1 from Pittsburgh. The previous WV show was reachable to nobody really. This is an much much easier drive for people in ROH hotbeds. If they can get people to Belle Vernon, they can get people to Wheeling.
And now it looks like I'll be going back. Honestly I'd prefer going to Columbus at 3 times the distance. That's a great city. Really, was it that more expensive to book DLL convention center again?
Re: Ring of Honor Events Schedule Thread
Although I think proximity to Pittsburgh (and other bigger towns in general) may have played a role in them coming to Wheeling, this may be more about the TV market of Wheeling and how the weekly show does there than a Pittsburgh alternative. The SBG station there is WTOV-9, the local NBC affiliate, and they air ROH at midnight on Sundays following their 11 O'Clock news and 35 minute live weekly Sports wrap-up show...which is probably one of the stronger lead-ins that ROH gets in any of its markets. No idea what kind of ratings they get there, though.Really, was it that more expensive to book DLL convention center again?
I'm still concerned about the size of the venue regardless of the market. This is a building that the WWE runs in occasionally (seats about 5,500). Even if it was relatively inexpensive, which I'm guessing it is...I'd just rather not have a TNA-ish look of an empty building on TV. I hope they do a lot of good local promotion.
As for Pittsburgh, I'm not sure where they'll run when they go back but I do think the DLL Convention Center was just something they did to be close to the venue for the Royal Rumble that weekend.

With AJ Styles and presumably Matt Sydal, i don't think it will be hard to sold a lot of tickets.
Re: Ring of Honor Events Schedule Thread
I talked to a few of the wrestlers at a non ROH show a few months back and they all said they think and hope ROH will book the convention center again. They did good enough the first time to justify running there again IMO. I personally know of at least a dozen people that went just because it wasn't in Belle Vernon, and I'm sure there were more than that. It was definitely the main factor in why the group I went with actually went. If they return to Pittsburgh in the winter months again, it would probably be beneficial to run inside or close to the city again IMO. If they could use Styles, Daniels & Kaz, and The Young Bucks or some combination of those guys, I think they could do okay at the convention center again.
Either way, I guess we'll have to wait and see for their Pittsburgh return. I hope the West Virginia show does well for them, its a bit of a gamble for that building though.

AJ Styles has officially been confirmed for September 27th in Wheeling, West Virginia!
Looks like ROH is banking on Styles being a big draw at these TV Tapings (both the West Virginia Tapings in September & the Florida Tapings in October).

Re: Ring of Honor Events Schedule Thread
Any speculation on who you guys would like to see Styles face in Wheeling? I'm thinking Cole, O'reilly or Fish could all be great!
Also, in regards to the Wheeling show, I saw my first live event there back in 1995 (a Superstars taping) and IIRC, it's a pretty big place - like really big. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong, but I did a search for pics on Google images and it looks bigger than what ROH is used to running...

This looks like a Greg the Office Boy deal. Greg wants to make an upfront profit on every show. Never mind that the building is about ready to fall over. I used to go to Nashville flea market when I was a kid, this is one of the flea market buildings. It was a dump even back in the 1970's .AssShooter wrote:Even with the problems they had with the lights, they run the Tennessee State Fairgrounds again ?...
This building is okay for house shows , but not ppv or ippv. I attended both shows in the building , it holds about a 1,000 . Sinclair should really set higher standards for their wrestling company. I also heard the all of the talent were booked in really crappy hotel . Sinclair really should invest in a capable executive , with a strong wrestling background , to run ROH .
Re: Ring of Honor Events Schedule Thread
It's odd that you would say "wants to make an upfront profit on every show" like it's a bad thing. They are a business after all.
Re: Ring of Honor Events Schedule Thread
Anyone know the date for Final Battle yet?
Re: Ring of Honor Events Schedule Thread
Keep giving BOSTON the middle finger ... what did we do, buy too many RF DVDs??
Re: Ring of Honor Events Schedule Thread
It's Wheeling. Trust me, crappy is the standard. The casino is about the only thing up to date there. And the last time I was there they had closed part of it down since business was dropping due to PA legalizing casinos, too.Memphis Mark wrote: This looks like a Greg the Office Boy deal. I understand that it sucks, but I also understand that ROH and Sinclair want to run shows in their TV markets. Maybe soon Boston will get a market.SamoaNOAH wrote:Keep giving BOSTON the middle finger ... what did we do, buy too many RF DVDs??
Honestly, even if they don't, I want them to go back, because that venue they ran in Plymouth, because it looked hella nice.

You're right, Wes Brance arena can hold 5000+ people.adduvall84 wrote:Also, in regards to the Wheeling show, I saw my first live event there back in 1995 (a Superstars taping) and IIRC, it's a pretty big place - like really big.
