Some ROH statistics and facts

Post by KL_ »

Hello.
Here I have some statistics and facts considering Ring of Honor events. I'm creating a new topic, because I hope I will provide some more statistics and facts in the future.

Let's begin.

Our today topic is ROH FINAL BATTLE.

As you know, so far we had 20 Final Battle events.

ROH World Championship title:
There were 19 ROH World Championship matches (no match in 2007 because of Nigel's injury). Out of them, 13 times ROH World Championship Match was a main event. But what if we divide these 20 years in two halfs?
1st half (2002-2011) - 4 times ROH World title match was a main event. Of course in 2007 there was no chance for it anyway, so just keep in mind this little detail ;)
2nd half (2012-2021) - 9 times ROH World title match was a main event. The only time it was not a main event - 2018, when it was Ladder War between The Briscoes, Daniels & Kazarian and The Young Bucks.

Is Final Battle a place where new ROH World Champion is often crowned? Not really.
No match in 2007 and no champion defending the title in 2021 (Bandido with Covid-19). So we have 18 matches with champion vs challenger.
12 times the champion won, 5 times the challenger won the title, 1 time we had a draw (in 2009 between Aries and Black). However, in the last 6 years we had 3 new ROH World Champions crowned at Final Battle (and I do not include 2021 where there was no champion defending the title). This situation is a little different than in the past. When in 2006 Homicide won the title, the next Final Battle with the challenger winning the belt was.... 10 years later - Kyle O'Reilly in 2016.

ROH World Tag Team Championship title:
No match in 2004, 2006 and 2010. So we have 17 ROH World Tag Team Championship matches.
8 times the champions defended successfully the titles, 9 times we had new champions. Neither the champions, nor the challengers have had more than two years in a row for either side to win.
Out of these 17 matches, in 9 of them the Briscoes were included. 6 times they won, 3 times they lost. 5 times they became the new champions, 2 times they dropped the titles. We can also add that Mark Briscoe has +1 match, because in 2020 his partner was PCO.

ROH TV Championship title:
The title was created in 2010, but in 2011 it was defended for the first time at Final Battle. No TV title match in 2012. So overall we have 10 matches.
6 times the champion won, 4 times we had a new champion crowned.
In the last 6 years it was alternately - one time the champion won, next time the challenger won, and so on.....; had Bobby Fish managed to take the ROH TV title from Roderick Strong in 2015, we would have had that "you-me-you-me" order from the very beginning of the title defenses at this event, and it would have been a perfect 5-5.
So, theoretically at Final Battle 2022 Samoa Joe should successfully defend the title.

Other titles have a short history, so let me just show the numbers:

ROH Pure Championship title:
2004, 2005, 2020, 2021.
4-0 for the champion.

ROH six-man Tag Team Championship title:
2016, 2017, 2021.
1-1. I do not count 2016, since The Kingdom were the inaugural champions.

ROH Women's Championship title:
2021.
1-0 for the champion.

* In all Final Battle matches we had 209 male and female wrestlers.
* As for the number of matches, naturally the Briscoes are on the top - Jay had 18 Final Battle matches, Mark had 17. 3rd place goes to Jay Lethal with 14 matches. There are two more wrestlers with 10 or more matches: Roderick Strong (12) and Rhett Titus (11).
* Who's got the biggest undefeated streak at Final Battle? That's..... CM Punk. 4-0. What's more interesting, his last FB match was in 2004 (in 2003 he was in both convention card and main show). Silas Young was in the lead with 5-0, but last year he lost at ROH TV Championship Fatal Four Way Match and what's more, he was the one who got pinned; so now he's 5-1.
* In total, most wins have two wrestler - Jay Briscoe and Jay Lethal. They both won 11 times. 3rd place for Mark Briscoe with 10 wins. They are the only ones with 10 on more wins and it's not gonna change very fast, because next in line is current WWE wrestler Roderick Strong with 7 wins.
* Who's got the biggest being defeated streak at Final Battle? That's..... Chris Hero. 0-6. 2nd place goes to Delirious with 0-5. However, Delirious lost all of them in team matches, while Hero in team matches lost only twice.
* The person with the most losses in total is Christopher Daniels. He won his first match in 2002, but then he lost next 8 matches; so he's 1-8. 4 of his losses were 1 vs 1 matches. 2nd and 3rd place goes to The Briscoes - 7 losses.

And now some facts:
* Did you know that at Final Battle 2002 Mickie James was in the ring? As Alexis Laree she lost and it took....41 seconds.
* Final Battle looks bad for Dalton Castle recently. He lost his last 4 matches at that event. He's currently 2-5.
* Similar problem had Rhett Titus. He lost all his first 5 matches. But later on he got it better and in his next 6 matches he lost only once. So he's 5-6 currently.
* Who's currently on a good streak? That's Jonathan Gresham - he won his last 4 matches at Final Battle. But it's doubtfully that he'll continue his streak in the near future, so let's see who's next in line. That's Dragon Lee with 3 Final Battle consecutive wins.
* Mark and Jay Briscoe currently have the longest Final Battle appearance streak. Since 2006 they didn't miss any Final Battle event. Next in line is Jay Lethal - since 2011.
* Current ROH World Championship #1 Contender's Claudio Castagnoli last time at Final Battle was in 2010. His current streak is 2-4. Even higher break from Final Battle has current ROH TV champion Samoa Joe - his last Final Battle match was in 2005. His current streak is 1 win, 2 losses and 1 draw.

There we go. I hope you like it :)
Have a nice Final Battle event this saturday.

Awesome stats and facts. Interesting to see the world champion defending so many times.

Tag championship sounds about right.

Chris Hero and Delirious losing streaks is surprising.

Would be cool if Gresham is back, but very doubtful at this point.

Today's topic is year 2022 in Ring of Honor.

Year 2022 means only 3 events: Supercard of Honor, Death Before Dishonor and Final Battle. Not much, but let's see what we can learn from here.

Three 2022 event - 35 matches in total. These matches brought together a total of 61 male and female wrestlers in action. Among them we had 16 teams. Let me tell you here: each team combination is counted separately - so, for example, the team of Kaun and Toa Liona who appeared in the ring together at Supercard of Honor are counted separately; and at the next event, the team of Kaun, Toa Liona and Brian Cage is another separate record.
Out of 35 fights, only 6 of them had a result different than a pinfall. 2 times we had referee stoppages and 4 times the fight ended by submission. The winners by referee decision were Wheeler Yuta and The Briscoes. Submission winners include Claudio Castagnoli, Samoa Joe and Mercedes Martinez. It is worth noting that Martinez was the only one to win that way twice.

How many male and female wrestlers out of those 61 appeared at all three events? 14, which is less than a quarter. Out of these 14 people, is there anyone who won all 3 matches? Yes, 4 people: Brian Cage, Kaun, Toa Liona, and Wheeler Yuta. And among these 14 people, is there anyone who lost all 3 matches? And here the answer is yes as well. Cheeseburger and Eli Isom.
We can assume that Colt Cabana would be the 15th person on the list, as he was scheduled to perform at Final Battle but due to health reasons he couldn't be allowed to fight. Moreover, it is possible that he would win his fight and be the fifth man with a 3-0 streak.
In the team division, out of 16 teams, we don't have anyone with a 3-0 streak. As I mentioned earlier, I count Kaun & Toa Liona and Kaun & Tio Liona & Brian Cage separately. So it's the 3-man team of The Embassy in first place with a 2-0 streak. On the opposite end are Cheeseburger and Eli Isom, who lost all 3 team matches.

Who did we watch the longest in the ring? It's easy to guess: The Briscoes and FTR. Their 3 fights in the ROH ring in 2022 are a total of 93 minutes and 40 seconds. Massive dominance, as Wheeler Yuta is next on the list with a total time of 43 minutes and 40 seconds. Only 25 seconds less was collected by Mercedes Martinez.
Among the wrestlers who appeared at all 3 events, Cheeseburger and Eli Isom have the shortest time. 13 minutes and 40 seconds. And let's remind that their streak is 0-3. Nice job guys :) 47 male and female wrestlers had only 1 or 2 fights in the ROH ring this year, and 19 of them spent more time in the ring than Cheeseburger and Eli Isom. 8 wrestlers needed only one fight for that: Bandido, Chris Jericho, Dragon Lee, JD Griffey, Keith Lee, Lee Moriarty, Serena Deeb, Shane Taylor.

And now some facts:
* The shortest title match goes to ROH TV Championship Match at Supercard of Honor. Minoru Suzuki needed only 6 minutes to defeat Rhett Titus.
* Twice in a row we saw Claudio Castagnoli becoming the new ROH World Champion.
* 2 out of 3 events includes Wheeler Yuta becoming the new ROH Pure Champion.
* There are 9 wrestlers who fought only at Supercard of Honor (an event where the creation of a matchcard began before Tony Khan bought Ring of Honor). Among them are Rhett Titus and Josh Woods, who have lost their belts at that event (ROH TV and ROH Pure).
* On each event the longest match goes to FTR vs The Briscoes.
* On each event the shortest match includes Cheeseburger and Eli Isom.

That's it for 2022.
Let's hope 2023 provides us more content to cover ;)

Today's topic is Jay Briscoe.

23 years - so much time Jay Briscoe spent in the ring. During this time Jay had a total of 945 fights, which gives an average of 41 fights per year. Still, that number could have been higher because in 2004-2005 the Briscoes took a little break from in-ring performances, and in the last 3 years the number of bouts decreased due to the Coronavirus. Out of 945 fights, Jay Briscoe achieved these results:

Total matches: 945
Wins: 527 (55.8%)
Loses: 376 (39.8%)
Ties: 42 (4.4%)

Of course, Jay definitely had most fights in the ROH ring - 611. This is a huge dominance over other federations, because the second place goes to New Japan Pro Wrestling, where Jay had 45 matches, which is over 13 times less than in ROH.
Jay Briscoe has fought in 73 federations, but if you categorize it for example: federations where he has fought at least 5 times, then we reduce this number to 19.

As for the Ring of Honor itself: the previously mentioned 611 fights, from which, as you can see, on average, almost 6 out of 10 Jay's fights ended with his victory.
Total duels: 611
Wins: 361 (59.1%)
Loses: 226 (37%)
Ties: 24 (3.9%)

In tag team matches, 113 wrestlers had Jay Briscoe as a tag team partner. Quite a number, but if we defined wrestlers who were in the tag with him at least 3 times, then there are only 35 people. Of course, it comes as no surprise that the clear leader as his partner is his brother, Mark Briscoe. Jay had 725 tag team matches, of which 677 (93.37%) were fights where the Briscoe brothers were on a team together. The second in the list Bully Ray has only 15 matches with Jay.
And here are the stats of The Briscoes in all their tag team matches:
Total duels: 677
Wins: 405 (59.8%)
Loses: 244 (36%)
Ties: 28 (4.1%)

How about Jay Briscoe in 1 vs 1 matches?
There were definitely fewer of these duels. 1 vs 1 fights account for 19.47% of Jay's total fights in his career. Although also here he most often left the ring with a win, in this list it is not more than half.
Total duels: 184
Wins: 90 (48.9%)
Loses: 81 (44%)
Ties: 13 (7.1%)

97 wrestlers have a 1 vs 1 match against Jay on their resume. But if we'd take a filter of "3 matches or more", then it's only 19 wrestlers. Against whom Jay Briscoe fought most often? And maybe a little surprise here: his brother - Mark Briscoe. The men faced each other a total of 14 times. Jay won 7 times, Mark won 3 times, and in 4 cases there was no winner. Necro Butcher and Roderick Strong are in second place, having faced Jay 6 times each. Interestingly, against Necro Butcher Jay never won. 5 times Necro defeated Jay and once there was a draw. Things are only a little better with Roderick - 1 win and 5 losses. Next on the list are Homicide (1-4) and Jay Lethal (2-3).
The most times, of course, Jay beat his brother. Second place for Michael Bennett - and here Jay has something to say. 100% wins against Bennett (4-0). Third place and three wins with each goes to Adam Cole, Bobby Fish and Davey Richards.
If we include wrestlers who Jay faced more than once and have percentage of wins higher than a half, from the list of 97 wrestlers we have 13 names - BJ Whitmer, Cheeseburger, Matt Taven, Michael Bennett, QT Marshall, Silas Young, Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Davey Richards, Adam Page, Jimmy Jacobs, Kenny King, Rhett Titus.
In team matches, Jay's opponent was most often played by Matt Jackson - 47 times (20-24-3). This is not the same number as the other Young Buck. Nick as Jay's opponent had one match less (20-23-3). Kenny King on the third place with 38 bouts (22-14-2). An individual wrestler that has the most loses against Jay in team matches - that goes to Davey Richards (26-6). On the opposite end: the person who won the most times against Jay in tag team matches - the mentioned before Matt Jackson.
In this category, we can add that there are a lot of wrestlers who have 100% loses against Jay Briscoe. However, Rocky Romero can be mentioned here in particular. In tag team matches, Jay won all 13 matches against him, and only 2 times less against Atsushi Aoki. There is also quite a list of people Jay has never won a tag team match against. CM Punk is at the top, with whom Jay is 0-4.

That's it for today.
See you next time.
