Agree 100% with Killer Poet...TheKillerPoet wrote:It's not a matter of seeing a difference between an angle and a sponsorship. It's the matter of placing the company on some kind of pedestal and completely overreacting to something that really bears no significance to the actual product. Is this thing sketchy as all hell? Yes, I don't think that many people are arguing that point. However, people acting like this is some tipping point where the actual product and credibility of the company is going into decline because they have a few banner ads on their site and a couple pictures on their Facebook is completely ridiculous.AOTF wrote:Nevermind, now I understand why ROH would seek sponsorship from a porn company. Thanks.
If the current fanbase doesn't care and doesn't see the difference between a wrestling angle and a teen porn sponsorship, then why not go for it? I'm sure the money is good. I hope it keeps the company around for a while, because I think there is still potential for some good wrestling matches.
I only mentioned the Hit Squad/CSC segment because you, for whatever reason, tried to position ROH as some sort of family friendly promotion when they have NEVER tried to be that.

No. ROH has never tried to be family friendly. Yes, it has had seedy stuff happen in the past connected with the company. Yes, it's had sexualized storylines before. Here's the thing though: There's a difference between what happens on screen and what your company has going on OFF screen. Someone brought up the Feinstein thing before like "Oh, the Weare18 deal is no big thing because they had the whole Feinstein deal." Yes, and it almost killed the company. No, the two things aren't really comparable but it's something that still turns consumers off on your company.
I don't care that Matt Taven is a slimeball on screen. That's his character and it's supposed to make me feel the way it does. I do care that it's a little weird to browse the ROH website in public because of the porn ads on the website. Is it unfair? Maybe. But I don't care. Being linked to a pornsite makes your company look low rate. Advertising a 1-800 number Cam site is the kind of thing we would joke about ROH doing if times got tough.
I have no moral objection to porn. I'm very pro porn. At the same time, I'm very aware of how it looks to the public.

This is the core of the issue here, and it flummoxes me why, after four pages, some people still don't see that. Almost no one who is against this sponsorship (and I am one of them) is against this because of some moral problem with porn. We are against it because it makes ROH look low-rent when they are trying to push themselves as a third national promotion. National promotions don't get cheap, sponsorships like this.Kincaid wrote:

I watch porn almost every day, and so do you the majority of you. Hell so does the majority of the male population.
Re: So um... What the fuck is this?
Why this isn't the best business move should be obvious to most people. I was responding specifically to one person claiming that this undermines what ROH once stood for. That claim is about as absurd as the sponsorship in question.Big Red Machine wrote:This is the core of the issue here, and it flummoxes me why, after four pages, some people still don't see that. What a bunch of whiny virgins, especially the creep who keeps throwing around the word "teen" to imply that the models aren't adults. I've seen girls gone wild ads during any number of TV shows and I don't recall anyone having a fit about that. This is really no different.

Can I re-enable all the dating ads on ROHWorld.com so we fit better with ROH? We turned them off ages ago

This thread
Don't care about it but yes, it does make them look low-rent if they have porn ads in their site/DVDs. Still I really don't understand the forced rage over it. It's stupid but nothing I should be super angry about.

I don't like people saying "ROH" when it's likely an SBG decision

Agree with this. I think it's great they're working with Toys for Tots. The Dragon Saga wrote:ROH are supporting Toys for Tots.
Where's the, "man how great is ROH for doing this?" thread. Oh wait, that's right, there won't be one.

LOL, I'll just pretend we got the we are 18 sponsorship (I'm sorry I couldn't help it. I'll delete this tweet asap. Please don't be mad)
Hilarious, considering DGUSA employs Trina Michaels, a woman who has been drilled more times than the Gulf of Mexico.

Yeah that's definitely not the first time he's made that joke.

Let's not forget that Gabe put the strap on (there's probably a better way to phrase that)a gay porn actor. Not hatin', just statin' that Gabe doesn't have the moral high ground here.barryrobinson wrote:Gabe Sapolsky @BookItGabe 1m

AR Fox.
Though it may be a cover story for him just wanting to show off his impressively-sized dong.

Re: So um... What the fuck is this?
The banner ads are part of the ROH product as much as what goes on in the ring. An attempt to separate these somehow represents skewed thinking. I would never have expected the demise of ROH before, but if this is what it has to do to survive, then who cares?
