Also, didn't Makabe break his jaw in last years G1?
It was Goto who break jaw last year

I haven't heard anything about Tanahashi but on the LAW podcast today they said Makabe is probably out.

From night 5, I was extremely impressed with Gallows in his match with Ishii. Great big-man offense. Utilizing the Undertaker punch is a nice touch. He also showed impressive agility throughout the match.

I actually thought Goto v Styles was the match of the night. That last 7-8 minutes were fantastic. Wasn't a fan of Shelton/Shibata. Smith/Kojima was a good 10 minute slugfest. Friggin Honma. Dude is delivering like crazy this tournament. Crowd loved him too. Much of the same vs Nakamura.

Looking ahead, night 6 is a bit lacking. Tanahashi/Ishii is obviously the match to see. Other than that, the only one I think looks good on paper is Kojima/Shibata. Hopefully a match or two surprises me.

I liked Okada/Naito best from night 5. Honestly, I think Naito is looking better this year than last year.

Or AJ became God. Man, for a while I've felt AJ's best days are behind him, but he's really proving me wrong this G1 apparently.

I forgot to list his sub-*** matches for 7/26 and 7/28, as I'm accustomed to only posting ***+.

Apparently, AJ did an interview prior to the start of the G1, and when asked who he was looking forward to facing the most, he said Tenzan.

Night 7 sounds like it was crazily good, and this is the show without Tanahashi & Okada. VoW ratings:

Benjamin vs. Kojima ***
Archer vs. Yano **
Anderson vs. Takahashi ***
Gallows vs. Smith ***1/4
Tenzan vs. Goto (computer crash)
Fale vs. Honma ***1/4
Naito vs. Makabe ****1/4
Styles vs. Suzuki *****
Nagata vs. Shibata ****1/4
Ishii vs. Nakamura ****1/2

Holy damn. So much for Suzuki being past it.

Styles, Shibata, Ishii, Tanahashi, Nakamura, Honma, Kojima, Okada, Goto, Naito and Makabe are all going so amazingly hot at the moment, and that is just making so many outstanding matches. And nobody is even having a bad G1 either, with guys like Yano, Tenzan and Benjamin doing better than expected. New Japan is so special.

Currently watching Night 7. Suzuki vs Styles is my match of the year so far. I don't know if it's 5 stars but it's pretty damn close. I also thought Homna died at the end of his match with Fale. That match was very short but I still thought it was great. Naito vs Makabe was sick too. Still two more matches to go and I've loved this show.

EDIT: This show was incredible.

The matches below are the matches I think you should watch from this show. They stood out among the rest.

Homna vs. Fale was a fun really short match ***1/4.
Naito vs. Makabe ****1/4
Suzuki vs. Styles - *****
Nagata vs. Shibata ****1/2
Ishii vs. Nakamura ****1/2

The Suzuki vs Styles match was something special. Honestly the last three matches were all incredible. They all had me marking out like crazy at the end. Fantastic show and well worth the money I paid for it.

I'm absolutely loving this tournament and my favorite part is I truly have no idea who is going to win. I picked Nakamura but the standings are so close really anything could happen.
