He's been great in this tournament thus far! People love him. Really hope he gets a win, and like Robareid said, I hope he beats Benjamin.Hellfont93 wrote:I cannot wait for Honma to pick up a win, it will be glorious.

Re: G1 Climax 24 Spoilers Thread
Actually woke up in time for Night 10 (6:00 AM here on the East Coast). There was a pretty significant issue with the Live iPPV. Essentially a black out similar to Global Wars in 2012. Missed the first three matches completely, but it picked up for me towards the end of the fourth match (Naito/Tenzan).
I'm sure everyone wants to know how Shibata/Ishii was. It was awesome, especially when you consider the fact that Ishii was wrestling with an injured shoulder. Wasn't quite as good as later years, but again, considering the circumstances, it was easily MOTN.
According to the commentators, here are how the standings break down heading into Night 11:

Re: G1 Climax 24 Spoilers Thread
just finished watching day 10. good show not even close to as good as a lot of shows this tourny. Crowd wasn't great
Kojima vs Honma ***1/4
DBS Jr vs Fale **1/2
Tenzan vs Naito ***1/4
Suzuki vs Anderswon ***1/4
Yano vs Makabe 1/2* short and pointless
Styles vs Yujiro ***1/4
Okada vs Archer ***1/2
Tanahashi vs Nagata ***1/4
Ishii vs Shibata ***3/4 Bumping this up a 1/4*. Great effort by Ishii with dislocated shoulder. Sad to see him hurt so badly, he's obviously in not the same form as early in the year so my match rating reflects that.
Nakamura vs Gallows ***

Re: G1 Climax 24 Spoilers Thread
So for Nakamura to reach the finals Smith needs to hold Tanahashi to a draw... I was convinced he'd be winning. Guess Okada-Tanahashi main event then, with Okada winning and Nakamura wins the belt another way and is challenged by Okada at the dome.
Re: G1 Climax 24 Spoilers Thread
if it's Nakamura/okada you want main eventing at the Dome, it's still possible. Nakamura will beat AJ in the 3rd place match earning him a title shotRobareid wrote:So for Nakamura to reach the finals Smith needs to hold Tanahashi to a draw... I was convinced he'd be winning. it's possible tanahashi beats Okada in the finals. that way you have okada beating AJ in the round robin and finishing 1st in the B block. gives him a right to another shot at AJ. nakamura beats AJ in the 3rd place match. and Tanahashi wins the tourny. thus all of the big 3 still have a claim at a title shot

Huh? The third place playoff earns you a title shot?

Re: G1 Climax 24 Spoilers Thread
For awhile, I've had Nakamura/Okada in the Finals, but the more I think about it, Tanahashi/Okada makes more sense. It's a perfect match to do for the Main Event of their first show at the Seibu Dome. Plus, it makes more sense from what they potentially have planned. I think they want to do Nakamura/Okada for the IWGP Title at The Tokyo Dome Show. The story I think they want to go with is Okada's road back to the title after getting screwed over by AJ Styles & Bullet Club. I think Okada beats Tanahashi in the Finals, while Nakamura beats AJ Styles in the 3rd Place Match. By virtue of beating the champion, Nakamura gets a title shot (say at King Of Pro Wrestling) and wins, leading to Nakamura/Okada (the biggest match they really have yet to do).Robareid wrote:So for Nakamura to reach the finals Smith needs to hold Tanahashi to a draw... i don't thnik it's written in stone but if you're booking damn right beating AJ in a 3rd place match would earn a shotRobareid wrote:Huh? The third place playoff earns you a title shot?

What we're saying is that he gets a title shot based off of beating the champion, just like how Naito will probably get a title shot, because he beat Styles during the tournament.Robareid wrote:Huh? The third place playoff earns you a title shot?

Yeah, I think that's the way they're going too now. I'd rather they didn't have Tanahashi-Okada again, I think I'd want to leave that match for at least another year to make it really special again, but hey-ho.

Re: G1 Climax 24 Spoilers Thread
i figured it would be Okada/Tanahashi in the finals because they're running the Seibu Dome. That match doesn't need any build and it should be a huge draw for the 33k venue.Robareid wrote:Yeah, I think that's the way they're going too now. They've been kept apart all year so i think the timing is fine

Re: G1 Climax 24 Spoilers Thread
I dunno. I just feel by having it now it's almost wasted. Sure, it's a big venue, but I think you can get away with a slightly smaller match as long as it's fresh. Okada vs. Ishii or Shibata or something. I mean, it's the G1 finals, and there's such a small window between it being announced and the actual show I don't think it'd make as much a difference as a normal show.
Save it another year and people will be dying to see it again. Having it now the match is still a big deal, but it doesn't feel special to me.

I think 10 Months is a good time frame to do another Okada/Tanahashi Match. I mean, it's not like they're starting a new feud or anything. It's just one match.

But with such a money maker, why have just a match?

Re: G1 Climax 24 Spoilers Thread
I think the only reason they're doing it again is because of the fact that they're running a 30,000 seat venue for the first time. It's a safe bet. Their feud definitely ended last year, so the only way they would ever meet 1-on-1 again was in the G1 Climax.

Re: G1 Climax 24 Spoilers Thread
You see, I think they'll end up feuding again some time in 2015 or 2016, and I think that would be greatly improved by not having this match.
