Catching up on SHIMMER

Post by Reaper G »

Hey all,

I had the pleasure of meeting Allison Danger at the Cauliflower Alley Club a couple months ago, and it reminded me that I haven't bought a SHIMMER DVD since Vol. 15. So what are the best shows/matches to look out for?

28 (Ayako Hamada vs. Sara Del Rey)
32 (Cheerleader Melissa vs. Ayako Hamada)
35 (Ayako Hamada vs. Nicole Matthews, Cheerleader Melissa vs. Ayumi Kurihara, Madison Eagles vs. Jessie McKay)

I have 37-44, that I still need to watch.

I have the complete connection and can recommend them all.
So I'd say "buy all that are still available!"

But if you want to move on to the present faster, skipping to #28 is a good idea indeed.
Hamada vs SDR was great, and at #29 the "Joshi Invasion" starts.
At this taping also Madison Eagles raises to the top, and she is one wrestler that you shouldn't miss.

Every one? A tad much, methinks. Which ones have had the title changes?

I'm looking to get into some SHIMMER stuff but I'm not sure where to start. I know they release shows in Volumes, so which Volumes are the best to get/which are highly recommended?

Everyone needs every Volume of SHIMMER.

Seriously.

Out of the last released (45-48), Vol. 46 was the best, in my opinion.

But Hawkeye is right, they are all worth to buy. There was never a SHIMMER event I would rank lower than 8/10, and a lot of them are 10/10.

So you may start with the oldest that's still available and buy them quickly, since when they are gone, they are gone.

SHIMMER is the only company that I feel is must buy every time. I cant pick out a specific volume or match that is must see because they are all just so great.

Also, if your going to WM, make sure to hit up SHIMMER live. Its easily the best live experience Ive ever been to.

Well then I'll be sure to pick up some SHIMMER stuff in that case! Definitely good to hear that all the volumes are good. I'll be going to Mania on Sunday but if not for college I'd be there all weekend.

41 is a good starting point if you want to start following the more recent shows. Madison Eagles title reign produced some really good stuff. Her first defense was on 33.

Since there is already a thread on this, figured I'd bump this so I can post a review of my 1st SHIMMER Show.

SHIMMER 71: The ChickFight Tournament
San Jose, California 3/28/15

1.) ChickFight Tournament - First Round - Portia Perez vs. Evie: **1/2-**3/4

2.) ChickFight Tournament - First Round - Nicole Savoy vs. Candice LeRae: ***1/4

3.) ChickFight Tournament - First Round - Nikki Storm vs. Cherry Bomb: ***

4.) ChickFight Tournament - First Round - Kimber Lee vs. Kay Lee Ray: ***-***1/4

5.) ChickFight Tournament - First Round - Athena vs. Mia Yim: ***3/4-****

6.) ChickFight Tournament - First Round - Cheerleader Melissa vs. Jessicka Havok: **

7.) ChickFight Tournament - Second Round - Evie vs. Nicole Savoy: ***1/2

8.) ChickFight Tournament - Second Round - Nikki Storm vs. Kay Lee Ray: ***-***1/4

9.) ChickFight Tournament - Second Round - Mia Yim vs. Cheerleader Melissa: **

10.) SHIMMER Title - Nicole Matthews vs. SHIMMER Tag Team Champion Tomoka Nakagawa: **3/4-***

11.) ChickFight Tournament - Finals - Three-Way Elimination Match - Evie vs. Kay Lee Ray vs. Cheerleader Melissa: ***

Overall: 7.5/10

Athena vs. Mia Yim was the Match of the Night, which should surprise nobody. Anything that involved Evie, Kay Lee Ray, Nicole Savoy & Nikki Storm was (for the most part) pretty good. On the flip side, anything that involved Cheerleader Melissa & Jessicka Havok, which included bad finishes & interference, was pretty bad. It's a shame because, outside of her one or two matches in Quintessential Pro Wrestling, I've only really known Cheerleader Melissa as Raisha Saeed/Alissa Flash in TNA, and I've heard great things about her work in SHIMMER. Unfortunately, this was just not a good weekend for her. Their were a number of bad finishes & interference spots in this show. If you want to do it once, ok fine, I can live with that, but having it happen multiple times (including the final three matches) was not a good decision. Still there is enough good on here that I'd say makes it worth checking out.

That 450 from Mia Yim was a thing of beauty.

Out of the competitors that I haven't seen before, I think Evie impressed me the most. I had a least heard of people like Kay Lee Ray & Nikki Storm, and knew that they were both really good coming in, but Evie was a complete unknown to me, and I came away a big fan of hers.

Apparently the "Surprise" appearances and the main event of SHIMMER 71 (I believe, the one the night after AAW's show) is absolutely amazing. Worth a look ;)

So for those who don't know, SHIMMER will be holding a show as part of the WWNLive Experience this year in Dallas. The show will be a one-night tournament (much like the ChickFight Tournament in San Jose last year), except this time around, they'll be crowning the first-ever Heart of SHIMMER Champion, which will essentially be SHIMMER's first mid-card singles title. The participants in the tournament are:

- Heidi Lovelace
- "Crazy" Mary Dobson
- Veda Scott
- Nicole Matthews
- SHIMMER Tag Team Champion Cherry Bomb
- Cheerleader Melissa
- Candice LeRae
- SHIMMER Tag Team Champion Kimber Lee
- Nicole Savoy
- Leva Bates
- LuFisto
- Jessicka Havok
