Glory Pro Thread

Post by DXvsNWO1994 »

For those who might have missed the news, Michael Elgin is starting his own promotion in the St. Louis area. Seems like it'll be a place to feature a lot of the guys he trains, plus established guys. Their first show is on February 19th, 2017, and it looks like they'll be partnering with Alpha-1 (which is Ethan Page's promotion). Here's their first card:

Glory Pro Crowning Achievement
Alton, Illinois 2/19/17

- "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin vs. Matt Riddle
- Crown of Glory Title Tournament - First Round - "All Ego" Ethan Page vs. Danny Adams
- Crown of Glory Title Tournament - First Round - Curt Stallion vs. Tyson Dux
- Crown of Glory Title Tournament - First Round - Everett Connors vs. Jason Kincaid
- Crown of Glory Title Tournament - First Round - Alpha-1 Alpha Male Champion Kobe Durst vs. Paco Gonzalez
- Chaos Six-Way Title - Chaos Six-Way Match - Space Monkey vs. Brother Reed vs. Mat Fitchett vs. Jason Roberts vs. Gary Jay vs. Davey Vega

I believe the finals of the tournament to crown the Glory Pro Champion will be a four-way held on the same show. Silas Young was originally booked to be in the tournament, but had to pull out (not sure about the reason).

Silas is now under an ROH exclusive so that would be the reason.

There were some notes about a month ago on an interview Elgin did discussing the promotion.

A list of people Elgin wanted to book, but couldn't for scheduling reasons, for the first Glory Pro show, all apparently options for his first-time-ever opponent before Riddle was selected.

-Masato Tanaka
-Tajiri
-Joe Doering
-Cody Rhodes
-Jushin Thunder Liger
-Kenny Omega
-Kota Ibushi
-Shuji Ishikawa, but that's because Elgin can't actually find his contact info

- He cited Beyond, AIW, PWG, and AAW as four of the top regional indies he's drawing some inspiration/talent from, especially AIW's "Match you never knew you wanted" style of booking
- He wants to book indie guys that don't get the shine he believes they deserve, like Brute VanSlyke, Jason Kincaid, and Tyson Dux
- He is willing to look up matches with anybody his students work with and potentially bring them in if he likes what he sees
- He also wants to bring in notable names like ROH/EVOLVE guys, Matt Hardy, Cody Rhodes etc. and book them against some of the relative unknowns to bring interest and have people learn about more talent
- He has four major inspirations for the style he wants his company to have: Modern NJPW, King's Road AJPW, mid-late 2000s ROH, and 80s NWA; especially the last
- He wants Glory Pro to present wrestling like a sport, as he believes that's a common theme among some of the best products in wrestling history; as such, referees will be very strict and no-nonsense about enforcing rules (ex. a single Eye Rake in front of the ref is a DQ)
- He wants to bring in guys that people in St. Louis haven't been able to see live, even guys that some people in America haven't been able to see live, particularly Japanese talent (he's already mentioned his interest in Sekimoto, Okabayashi, and Ibushi)
- He is focused on making St. Louis a wrestling destination as it was decades ago, but right now he's running on the Illinois side of the city for the forseeable future as Missouri has some regulations that aren't cost-effective
- He plans on 6 events each year right now, maybe more if they do well
- 6-Way Lucha Rules matches will be a staple on every single show
- He has reached out to Smart Mark Video and Powerbomb.tv for possible distribution
- He reiterated that everything he's said about the promotion would apply to its women's division once it were to get started, which is pretty much a given since MsChif is his wife.
- His ultimate dream is to become popular enough in Japan to run a sold-out Korakuen Hall show
