The SMASH Wrestling Thread

Post by DXvsNWO1994 »

Honestly surprised that there isn't a thread for this promotion already. From all accounts, they've had a very good 2014. Here's the card for their upcoming show in a few weeks:

SMASH Wrestling Challenge Accepted
Mississauga, Ontario, Canada 11/23/14

- SMASH Wrestling Title - Matt Cross (c) vs. Alex Shelley
- Drew Gulak & Biff Busick vs The Young Bucks
- The World’s Cutest Tag Team (Joey Ryan and Candice Lerae) vs The World’s Fittest Tag Team (Pepper Parks and Cherry Bomb)
- Ambulance Match - ‘Hacker’ Scotty O’Shea vs Brent Banks
- Sebastian Suave vs Tyson Dux
- Johnny Gargano vs Gregory Iron

I'm sure I've posted a review of their Rival Schools show somewhere though.

Anyway, I bought the CANUSA Classic a few weeks ago and thought it was a solid show from top to bottom, although with no killer match. They also have a weekly show on Youtube with matches from their house shows and some old stuff.

I got into their shows last year, the show with Chris Hero vs. Lance Storm as the main event, I forgot the name. Since then, they've had a slew of talent come through there, established and not, that has done really well. AJ Styles, Jay Lethal, Kyle O'Reilly, ACH, Young Bucks, etc. Really great shows over the last couple years.

They've put on a lot of good shows this year that I plan on getting at some point. Any Given Sunday 2, Gold & Smashapalooza 2014 all look really good. They were giving away Rival Schools 2014 for free on the Smash Wrestling website a few months ago.

SMASH Wrestling now has an On-Demand Service. You can have access to all of their shows for $7.49 a month.

Here are the results from the show this past weekend via PWP:
SMASH Wrestling Any Given Sunday 3
March 15, 2015
Toronto, Ontario CANADA
Credit: BeyondThe3Count

Dark match: Preston Myles & Tyler Thomas def Dan Ohaire & Abe Jackson with a double foot stomp on Jackson

Matt Cross def Brent Banks with a shooting star press

Candice LeRae def Kimber Lee via a roll up

The Goat Brigade defeated Super Smash Bros via a roll up pin by Sabre on Player Uno

Johnny Gargano def Tyson Dux after countering a suplex into a cradle pin

Elimination match: Josh Alexander def Mike Bailey/Tarik/Pepper Parks/Scotty O’Shea/Gregory Iron
– Alexander eliminated Iron & Pepper via a Tombstone
– Alexander both eliminated both Bailey & O’Shea via Tombstone
– Alexander was victorious via count out because Tarik escaped the tombstone and ran to the back

Chairs Match
Courtney Rush def Vanessa Kraven after Kraven got powerbombed off the top rope onto 2 chairs & Kraven tapped out via a SharpShooter with a chair on her
– LeRae & Lee brutally assaulted Kraven & Rush after the match

Drew Gulak & Tarik def The Overdogs
– Busick was unable to make it due to passport issues

Chris Hero def Tommaso Ciampa with a tombstone
Chris Hero grabbed the mic and paid respect to Ciampa. Tarik, Gulak, Cross & Gargano came down to the ring & Gargano turned on Cross. There was a brawl and Tarik stood above all. Gargano has the Smash title he challenged Cross at the next show The Art of War.
In addition to The Art of War, which is in April, SMASH also announced Gold 2015, which will be on May 17th, the day after the ROH/NJPW Shows in Toronto. I think it'll be similar to last year, where there were five qualifying matches and then a Five-Way Elimination Match, but this year, it's for the #1 Contender to the SMASH Wrestling Title. Here are the 10 Participants:

- Brent Banks
- Tarik (formerly Alex Vega)
- Rich Swann
- Trevor Lee
- Gregory Iron
- Drew Gulak
- Tyson Dux
- Biff Busick
- Candice LeRae
- Scotty O'Shea

So for those who don't know, there a new heel stable in SMASH called 4th Gun (or something like that), consisting of TARIK (the former Alex Vega), Drew Gulak, Biff Busick (who missed the last two shows due to visa issues), and now Johnny Gargano. Apparently the SMASH Wrestling Title is now vacant, since Alex Shelley won the title back at the end of last year (with help from TARIK), taking the title hostage. Since I guess Shelley isn't going to be in SMASH (at least the next few shows), they vacated the title.

Here's a quick update on SMASH's next show, The Art of War, on April 26th:

- SMASH Wrestling Title - Matt Cross vs. Johnny Gargano
- Candice LeRae vs. Courtney Rush

Also signed to appear:

- The American Wolves
- Tyson Dux
- Robbie E

Two more matches announced for The Art Of War:

- The American Wolves vs. Fourth Gunn (Biff Busick & Drew Gulak)
- Tyson Dux vs. TARIK

I should note that Busick got his visa issues resolved and he can now go back into Canada.

Here are the results from The Art of War, which took place this past weekend:

- Josh Alexander & John Greed def. The Super Smash Bros.
- Scotty O'Shea def. Robbie E
- Tyson Dux def. TARIK
- Gregory Iron def. Brent Banks
- Candice LeRae def. Courtney Rush
- Fourth Gunn (Biff Busick & Drew Gulak) def. The Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards)
- SMASH Wrestling Title - Johnny Gargano def. Matt Cross

Here are also the tournament matches for the next event, Gold, on May 17th.

- Rich Swann vs. Trevor Lee
- TARIK vs. Gregory Iron
- Tyson Dux vs. Drew Gulak
- Biff Busick vs. Scotty O'Shea
- Brent Banks vs. Candice LeRae

The winners of those 5 Matches will meet in a Five-Way Elimination Match later in the night. Chris Hero has also been confirmed, and I would imagine guys like Johnny Gargano, Matt Cross & Alexander would be booked as well.

Big weekend of wrestling in Toronto for sure.

Johnny Gargano vs. Josh Alexander vs. Chris Hero in a Triple Threat Match has been added to Gold: 2k15. That should be pretty great!

Also, Samoa Joe vs. Chris Hero will be taking play at the following show on June 6th.
