Revolution Pro Wrestling (RPW) Thread

Post by Robareid »

Does anybody else follow RPW? They're arguably the UK's top promotion at the moment, and I really think they deserve more notoriety state side. If the cards they put on were occurring in say PWG, they'd be the love of the wrestling world. I highly recommend picking up some of their DVDs. Here are their two most recent cards:

High Stakes:
Josh Bodom vs. Jay Lethal
Mark Andrews vs. Sha Samuels
The Inner City Machine Guns vs. The Swords of Essex
The Young Bucks vs. Project Ego
El Ligero vs. Sonjay Dutt
Marty Scurll vs. Colt Cabana

Sittingbourne Spectacular:
Swords of Essex vs. Jay Lethal & Sonjay Dutt
Josh Bodom vs. El Ligero
Lord Gideon Grey vs. Colt Cabana
Marty Scurll vs. Mark Andrews
Inner City Machine Guns vs. Young Bucks
The Kartel vs. Winner of ICMG-YB

Summer Sizzler:
England's Calling vs. The Kartel
Bad Luck Fale vs. Dave Mastiff
Marty Scurll vs. Kevin Steen
Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Zack Sabre Jr.
2 Unlimited vs. Ospreay & McCluskey
Prince Devitt vs. Adam Cole

The upcoming show, Uprising, has already announced that Anderson and Okada coming in, and Inner City Machine Guns vs. 2 Unlimited is the first match announced, and that should be fantastic, as 2 Unlimited vs. Ospreay & McCluskey stole the show for me at Summer Sizzler. On a card with Fale, Steen, LDRS, Nakamura, Cole and Devitt, that's really saying something.

They have a working relationship with NJPW, and bring in a lot of the best of the US indies, both from ROH and DGUSA. Mix this with the best workers on the UK scene, who in my opinion are just as good as their US counterparts, and every card is loaded with talent.

I recently attended Summer Sizzler, and it was absolutely fantastic. If you can make it into London to see a show, then you should.

They don't run a lot of shows, but that just means the ones that they do run are stacked and special. And they're also easy to slip into your viewing schedule. As I said, it's well worth a watch if you can.

For anybody at all interested in British wrestling, I've recently joined the team at Voices of Wrestling and, among other things, I'm going to be covering British and European wrestling for them. My first article is a full introduction to RPW, so give it a check out.

I would like to pick up some shows at some point. All three of those shows look good actually. Do they have digital downloads, or only DVD's?

Yeah, that's the real problem for RPW, they are still only a DVD and Live company. I'd advise tweeting them about it, as if they see that there's a significant market for there shows in the US it'll probably encourage them in that direction.

As for the DVDs, sadly they only do DVDs for their London shows, so they don't have Sittingbourne Spectacular, which is a real shame as Essex/Lethal&Dutt, ICMG/Bucks and Andrews/Scurll all sound fantastic, and I don't go to the Sittingbourne shows.

I'll have a full review of Summer Sizzler up in the next few days on Voices.

Here's an update on the card for Uprising:

Inner City Machine Guns vs. 2 Unlimited
Too Cool & Rikishi vs. The Revolutionists (Bodom, Samuels & Frazier)

Also scheduled to appear:
Kazuchika Okada
Mat Sydal
Karl Anderson

The thing is, they've turned the weekend into a double shot. Both events are happening in London, but one in York Hall, where they usually do all their DVDs from, and one in Claphand Grand, a new arena for them. Whether they'll tape the second event is up in the air, because they run a lot of events that they don't tape, and they only tape the York Hall shows atm. And Okada-Ricochet is on the Claphand Grand show.

I'd be amazed if they don't try to capitalize with DVDs though.

Have they considered getting into contact with people like Smart Mark Video or Highspots? It would be great if they could get a way to digitally distribute their content. With matches like Okada vs. Ricochet, I'm sure there would be plenty of people here in the US who would buy their shows.

Yep, I don't buy DVD's and don't follow many indy companies anymore, but if their stuff was available digitally, I'd pay to see Ricochet vs Okada.

Just ordered Live in Bognor (I am from there originally), 7 year anniversary show, when thunder strikes and Summer Sizzler. Looking forward to seeing how long delivery takes and watching the shows!

Oh dear, that's not good. You could try tweeting them maybe, public humiliation on a companies page often speeds things up.

Uprising 18/10/14

Kazuchika Okada vs Joel Redman - Eh, waste of Okada

Inner City Machine Guns vs 2 Unlimited - This could easily steal the show. Hyped for this one.

Too Cool (Grand Master Shexay, Scotty 2 Hotty & Rikishi) vs The Revolutionists (Josh Bodom, Sha Samuels & Terry Frazier) - Meh

Matt Sydal vs Will Ospreay - Potential to be great, although Sydal still isn't quite there from what I've seen.

Okada vs. Ricochet 19/10/14

Ricochet vs Kazuchika Okada - No words. If they go all out, has potential to be match of the year

Marty Scurll vs Kris Travis - Should be good, although obviously a secondary attraction on this card

Josh Bodom (c) vs Will Ospreay vs Rich Swann - Another match I'm very much looking forward to. Three great high flyers.

So far, second show of the weekend definitely looks the stronger of the two. Very much looking forward to this weekend of wrestling.

Fuck Lucha Underground is all I can say. Pull him less than two weeks before the event after being advertised for four months.

I've seen a number of people on Twitter actually prefer the Okada/Aries matchup over Okada/Ricochet.

The worst part of it is, the first episode of their show hasn't ever aired yet!!! They might have more of a reason to due this when their show is actually on TV, but the first episode doesn't even premiere until the end of the month!!!

Most of them are people who are unfamiliar with Ricochet.
