Observer:
The official announcement of the Money In the Bank show being 6/18 in St. Louis was made at the 12/27 house show at the Scottrade Center. It was also announced as being a Smackdown exclusive show this year.
Booker T did a TMZ interview saying that Hogan deserves a second chance. He said that he went to prison as a kid and people gave him a second chance, specifically noting the guy who paid for his wrestling training because he saw something in him. He said Hogan made a mistake but everyone is entitled to a second chance and he’ll support Hogan 100 percent if he comes back and that Hogan always backed him when they were in WCW. It is certainly expected the Hogan surprise return will be at WrestleMania.
Right now when it comes to WrestleMania while there are a lot of rumors and directions being stated, there are only three matches locked in, which are Brock Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg, HHH vs. Seth Rollins and Big Show vs. Shaquille O’Neal.

John Cena vs. Undertaker is a probable, but Vince McMahon was not locked on it. Also probable was a multiple person women’s championship match on the Raw side. Right now when it comes to Undertaker, while it is likely Cena, the other opponent considered is Roman Reigns with the idea that Reigns is the future, Cena vs. Undertaker doesn’t build the future, and this may be Undertaker’s last match. If they don’t do Reigns this year, they may never be able to do it. Either way, if Cena and Reigns leave San Antonio as champions, it looks like Undertaker will challenge one of them in the main event.

The storyline of Undertaker no longer being defined by WrestleMania, may be a story of him entering and winning the Royal Rumble, to earn that shot, or challenging for a title, and the title win being the key. Or it could be Cena vs. Undertaker, which was scheduled for last year but fell through when Cena needed shoulder surgery. The match doesn’t need a title attached to it, but the title would elevate the match to the main event position and elevate the title as well based on two of the truly biggest stars on the show being in the match.

As far as if they do Cena vs. Undertaker, whether that will be for the Smackdown title, that would make sense since Cena will challenge A.J. Styles for the title at the Royal Rumble. Given Styles having the edge on Cena in singles matches and Cena always evening up the score, it would seem to be his turn. On Smackdown, they were heavily pushing the idea of Cena as a 15-time champion, with the story of needing one win to tie Ric Flair’s fake record of 16 (as noted before, you can interpret the Flair number many different ways, but the smallest number you can give is 18). Cena already failed once when going for that record.

This would make Undertaker a favorite for the Rumble along with Braun Strowman, since the winner of the Rumble should be the person who challenges for one of the two titles. If Reigns goes with Undertaker, the question becomes who would then go with Cena (or Styles if he retains).

Reigns could just as easily beat Kevin Owens at the Rumble to win the Universal title, and defend against Strowman, but if need be, he could also defend against Undertaker if the idea of the show is to build around Undertaker challenging for the title. Owens and Chris Jericho has been built for months and they’ve dragged it out so it peaks at the right time, and WrestleMania would be that time.
Mickie James, 37, did her WWE physical in Pittsburgh on 12/22 and if all goes well will be starting soon on the Smackdown brand.
For whatever this is worth, and keep in mind this wouldn’t be the first time this has been said, but Kurt Angle has told promoters he’s doing no more indie dates except one match with Alberto and another with Cody Rhodes, and then going to WWE in April. Keep in mind his people have claimed that for some time and WWE sources have denied it. There are all kinds of rumors regarding Angle and WWE, and there would be, since WWE has in recent years changed its position on people who would “never” be back like Warrior and Goldberg. Angle was always a Vince McMahon call, as ever since he left TNA early this past year, he’s made it clear he wants to go back and things like being the new character in the video game and going into the Hall of Fame make sense as there is a very short list for the former and a fairly short list for guys who can be in the top two or three spots for the latter and he checks both off. As far as wrestling goes, it would have to be a Goldberg/Lesnar thing of only a few matches.
The wrestlers from the U.K. who just signed WWE contracts for the tournament on 1/14 and 1/15 in Blackpool, England, live on the WWE Network, signed one-year deals for 16,000 pounds or roughly $20,000 U.S. Several of the wrestlers that were signed told Wrestle Culture Pro Wrestling that they had been told they could no longer work for the promotion after 1/15. When William Regal came to the U.K., he specifically talked about no restrictions on where the talent could work, but we knew that the contracts specified the obvious like TNA or ROH, and there was no way the guys would be able to work for the ITV group, since, even though WWE says the opposite publicly, the key to this thing being done was an attempt to stop the ITV group. Wrestle Culture doesn’t have regular television. They have television tapings for an Internet show and have spent huge money for people like Kurt Angle, Jim Ross, Alberto El Patron and others. The promotions that Paul Levesque talked about when he was there that they would work with included Progress and Revolution Pro, and they sent Finn Balor to ICW and OTT, so there is a relationship there as well.

If he returns, I'd prefer it be in Pittsburgh for the obvious reasons. Make that return pop as huge as fucking possible.

Pittsburgh hosts SmackDown in March, and there aren't very many interesting matchups that I see. But I have boiled it down to one member of that roster.

Danielson's surrogate to finally humble Miz at WM33 would be Angle.

Observer:
Lesnar returns on the 1/16 Raw in Little Rock, and Goldberg and Lesnar will both be on the 1/23 Raw in Cleveland.
Goldberg signed a three-PPV deal on his new contract, which will be Royal Rumble, Fast Lane (3/5 in Milwaukee) and WrestleMania. He will also be doing TV fairly often through Mania to promote all three of those shows.
Diamond Dallas Page was reported by PW Insider as the first inductee in the 2017 WWE Hall of Fame. It makes sense since WWE is also releasing a DDP video in March. Given all the work he’s done in trying to turn around the lives of Jake Roberts and Scott Hall alone makes him a real-life Hall of Famer in my book.
Regarding the women’s tournament that at first was scheduled to start in January, because of the decision to do the U.K. thing coming up so quickly (even though the claim it was in the planning stages for a year, yet nobody heard anything until recent weeks while the women had been told months back about their tournament), the women’s tournament series network special is tentatively earmarked for a May start.

Observer:
There are long-term plans to follow this [UK Title tournament] concept and do similar tournaments to create as Asian champion and a Latin American champion
The WrestleMania show isn’t finalized, but there is an idea on the table where Joe will debut with a major push and be in one of the top few matches on the show, which also makes it likely he’s starting very soon and would have to have a big Rumble if he’s in it.
There have been some changes made in WrestleMania plans as noted in recent weeks, with the major thing being that the proposed Undertaker vs. John Cena match is off the boards.

Vince McMahon changed his mind on the match, which was to be one of the two biggest matches in 2016, and at one point one of the top matches for the 4/2 show in Orlando.

The card will be clearer coming out of the Royal Rumble, on 1/29 in San Antonio. Undertaker, and whoever was to challenge for the Universal title on Raw, would have been Rumble favorites if the idea was to go with tradition and have the Rumble winner challenge for one of the two the major titles at Mania.

While connecting dots can come up with a pretty good idea of the show, the key things known is that Undertaker right now is not scheduled to challenge for either title on the show. He did appear on the 1/9 Raw show, after first arriving on Smackdown, because when he was on Smackdown, it was to build for him to face Cena. Now he will face someone on the Raw roster. There was a tease of Braun Strowman on Raw, but it will not be Strowman as things stand right now.

The key matches remain Brock Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg, which based on current hints and direction looks likely to be presented as the main event on the show, HHH vs. Seth Rollins and Big Show vs. Shaquille O’Neal.

There has been the long tease of Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jericho. With Jericho still on the books for touring over the summer, Mania seems like the place to finally do the match. They have just started teasing a split up of The Wyatt Family on Smackdown.

Roman Reigns will obviously be in one of the major matches on the show. This also leaves open spots for Cena, A.J. Styles, Finn Balor (who is expected to be back in action around March unless that date is a Rumble swerve, which it probably isn’t) and Dean Ambrose. Ambrose and Miz is just starting as a program and timing wise I could see them building to a blow-off. But there is a tradition of the multiple person ladder match over the IC title as well, although I could also see them doing the first major show women’s ladder match instead. If Jericho is to retain the U.S. title, that would seem earmarked for the Owens match, if that is the direction they continue.

There will be six or seven major main event level singles matches on the show, not including cruiserweights or women. The women’s match is not finalized, but Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks vs. Bayley vs. Nia Jax is the current proposed main woman’s match.

This is big. We could soon be living in an era of WWE Global Territories. It would be interesting to see who they poach from Mexico & Japan, if this were to happen. I'd also be curious to see how successful those territories would actually be. I have a feeling that they just won't be as successful in those parts of the world (at least, initially) compared to a territory in the UK, but time will tell.

I think we're all hoping that this happens.

I really should have had my Taker comment here....so I will add a couple more.

I hope they don't do Taker-Strowman at Mania. The last thing Strowman needs right now in his push is a loss to Taker at Mania.

That being said, they are somewhat cornered in what to do with him. I dont think there is enough interest in putting him in a singles with Zayn again. He would be out of place in a multi person match for a secondary title.

Maybe a run in during Show/Shaq were he flattens them both?

They are somewhat cornered from a booking standpoint unless they are willing for him to go over in a high profile match.

Observer:
Samoa Joe and Nakamura are doing autograph signings at Axxess with the major stars of the main brands. Whether that’s a sign that Nakamura will be up by Mania, I don’t know, but the plan is for Joe to be up soon and in a good spot
The plans at this point are that neither Kevin Owens nor A.J. Styles will be champions going into WrestleMania. Smackdown has an Elimination Chamber match, meaning six guys will be in, so if John Cena wins the title at the Rumble, and that’s being teased (although they did downplay the tying of the Ric Flair record this past week), that doesn’t mean he’ll retain it in the Chamber match.

The Mania lineup at this point is looking like Goldberg vs. Lesnar, Undertaker vs. Roman Reigns, HHH vs. Seth Rollins, Jericho vs. Owens, Wyatt vs. Orton, Show vs. Shaquille O’Neal and Charlotte vs. Bayley vs. Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax as the Raw women’s title match. The key is the Rumble winner is likely, although they could swerve, to be the person who will challenge for either the Universal title or WWE title.

The only Smackdown match on that list is Orton vs. Wyatt, and it’s not a secret that Wyatt was scheduled for a title run in 2017. That immediately puts both of them in contention, and if one wins, the other would be favored to win the Chamber match. There’s a story that just started going around about Orton winning the Rumble and Wyatt winning the Chamber match. If that doesn’t happen, it would be because plans changed. Even though historically the booking before Mania always gets out and it almost never changed (it changes for other reasons, such as injuries or guys quitting, but that’s usually known as well), with the increase in social media, my feeling is nothing is a lock until it happens. I doubt we’ll see major destination changes, in the sense the top of the card will probably be pretty close to as is slated now, but how to get there could change.

On the Raw side, Goldberg vs. Lesnar, Undertaker vs. Reigns or Jericho vs. Owens would likely be the title match. Goldberg’s storyline explicitly mentions coming after the title. Owens vs. Jericho would make more sense as the U.S. title match since Owens would figure to win if Jericho is still going to tour over the summer.

Coming off the Rumble, or at least when the Fast Lane main event is announced, that should make the Raw title direction obvious, unless it’s Reigns vs. Goldberg at Fast Lane and Owens isn’t figured in, at which point it won’t be as clear.

Among the key guys, the obvious guys not on the list of matches are Cena, Styles, Balor, Dean Ambrose and Strowman of guys that will likely be in key matches. Cena vs. Samoa Joe was definitely an idea that was pitched, and made sense based on a few things we’ve heard, but we’ve never heard a confirmation on that. There are rumors of Styles vs. Shane McMahon, and Styles did complain about the idea of the Elimination Chamber match to Shane and neither have anything going. As noted before, Goldberg agreeing to stay past one match may have saved Lesnar from this year’s Shane program and Shane pitched for that idea and they had started in that direction before it was dropped cold.

Strowman is harder to figure, as he’s clearly being pushed for something big. They’ve teased the idea of doing spots with him with Undertaker and Show at the Rumble. But all the guys you’d think they are building him up for, Goldberg, Lesnar, Undertaker, Reigns or Show, are all taken at this point. He could be put in there for the Andre Battle Royal, and perhaps take that one (at one point that was the idea last year but the feeling at the time is he wasn’t ready), and then work with one of the aforementioned names after Mania in a top program. One would think he’ll play monster in the Rumble, and there will be a story built from his elimination to take him to his next destiny.

I could see the Smackdown women’s title in a multiple person match, except you don’t want both women’s titles up in the same type of match. Nikki Bella and Becky Lynch are the most over of the women on the brand, but both are faces. Nikki has been kept away from the title ever since the brand split, and they’ve been feeding her heels to fill her time staying out of that picture, so her chasing would be new.

I thought the booking was pretty solid tonight at the Rumble.

Bayley/Charlotte was really good. Definitely sets up a singles rematch at Mania in my opinion. RAW/Smackdown 10 woman tag with the rest of the group on the pre show.

Owens/Reigns was really good. Damn KO can take some bumps. I liked the ending having Strowman interfere. With what happened in the Rumble, could go a few different ways with Reigns from a booking standpoint.

Neville/Swann was ok. Fairly predictable, but work rate was solid.

Cena/AJ was off the charts. So many near falls. They work really good together. Cena joins that elite company now with Naitch.

Rumble booking was ok for the most part. I liked it being Reigns at 30. They booed like crazy, thinking he was obviously going to win it.

Not sure how they will book Lesnar/Goldberg now, after 2 dominant quick showings by Goldberg. They need to have Lesnar wipe the mat with Goldberg out of frustration, taking him out til Mania, to salvage any type of storyline between the two.

I think elimination chamber is the PERFECT TIME to debut Joe. Have him lay waste to Cena taking him out early. I would have Cena, Wyatt, Corbin, Miz, Joe, Ambrose in the match. Have Bray Wyatt beat Ambrose to win the match.

Then you have the story line of Wyatt trying to strong arm Orton into standing down and not taking the title match at Mania, Orton snaps, and you have your storyline.

i can't complain about Orton winning the Rumble just because nobody was expecting it. He was just jobbing to American Alpha two or three weeks ago, now he's back in the title hunt. Orton-Cena for the thousandth time? True, they're not Flair and Steamboat, but when have they not delivered?

The rest of the Rumble set up a few conceivable storylines -- Lesnar-Goldberg 3, Reigns-Undertaker, Harper-Wyatt.

Oh, and Samoa Joe made his "Raw" debut tonight. I has a happy.

From WO/F4W:
Seth Rollins may be facing another absence from the ring after suffering an injury.

Dave Meltzer reports that Rollins suffered an injury on Raw in his brawl with Samoa Joe. WWE confirmed the news in an announcement on their website that played into Rollins' storyline with Triple H and Joe. WWE's announcement said that Rollins suffered an injury to the same right knee where he previously tore his ACL.

WWE's post noted that Rollins would be evaluated later this week to determine the extent of the injury.

If Rollins is out for an extended period of time, it would be a blow to the WrestleMania 33 card after Rollins' previous knee injury kept him out of last year's show in Dallas.

Rollins had been set to face Triple H at WrestleMania in Orlando for months before their storyline finally reignited over Royal Rumble weekend. Rollins called out Triple H at NXT TakeOver: San Antonio on Saturday, leading to Joe ambushing Rollins before he could meet Triple H in the ring on Monday
