I wouldn't say Juice Robinson has been killing it by any means but he has gotten somewhat of a push.

I think he pinned Naito recently and he is in the G1 and that's the NJPW top hands.

As far as Billy Gunn goes he does show up from time to time but he's not in the title picture by any means and is in a 3 Man Band level group.
Cool... Thanks It felt like CJ Parker was just in NXT, but i guess that was like 2 years ago already. Surprised he beat Naito. Interesting about Billy Gunn. He's in good shape for his age.

1) You pretty much have it down pat. Road To (somewhat similar to ROH VODs) shows are the ones that almost never feature English commentary. NJPW doesn't utilize tapings.

2) NJPW World is the much better option. AXS edits the matches in length, stuffs in commercials, is months behind the current product, features a very sub-par Jim Ross, and has a lower audio mix than the website. If you don't already have the station, then I recommend the streaming service tenfold.

3) Much of the major shows since the 80s and 90s are available on their archive, and nearly every show from the past five years is posted. Searching on the website is currently one of its most criticized aspects, especially in English. I have found that searching by tag (like a particular wrestler or a venue like Sumo Hall) is the best way to use the site.

Juice has improved a shitload since he was in NXT. He pinned Naito in a multi-man tag match, which some might think doesn't mean as much. In his singles match against Naito, no one thought he would win, but Naito laid the match out so brilliantly it made it entertaining. Having said that, I thought Juice held up quite well in his match with ZSJ. I think the guy is turning out to be a solid wrestler. For sure leaving NXT was the best move he ever made for his career.

Loved Omega/Ishii for the NJPW U.S. title. These guys work really well together. Check this match out if you haven't seen it. Regardless of the opponent, Kenny Omega is one of the best wrestlers on the planet.

Omega vs. Cody is going to be one of the major programs for WK probably over the U.S. Title. Probably the number three match on the card after Okada and Tanahashi matches (wonder who they'll give Tanahashi at WK? Elgin, maybe Ibushi?). I don't think they really look at Naito as an Ace type in actuality. He just did the job for Ishii and drops more big matches than he wins (though that could all be part of being tranquilo). At this point I'm starting to think Okada may have a marathon reign and the main events will be Okada vs. Flavor of the month challenger on every big show.
With Omega winning the US Title and Cody likely being the ROH Champion the next four to six months, I don't know if they'll end up wrestling each other this year. *wrings collar* Cody/Omega suddenly seems much more likely to happen at WK.

Read this morning that the new NJPW US strap would be defended in ROH regularly and you'd see more of Omega in ROH because of it.

So how does everyone here feel about Dave Meltzer stealing the Adamle Rating Scale and giving the Okada-Omega matches 6 and 6 and a quarter stars respectively?

It's stupid. Especially him pretending a) it's always been this way because he vaguely mentioned it thirty years ago and b) the idea that these matches are four and five standard deviations better than anything he's seen in the last thirty years is absurd. Like if he did five and a quarter and then five and a half, it would be a little better. But six stars shits on everything he rated five or four and three quarters, etc. by changing the implied scale that all critics work from. He's just trolling people at this point, I think.

So you're saying my rating scale is superior since I do have five and a quarter/half/three quarter matches?

Anyone know what the individual plans are for Rocky Romero and Trent Baretta?

I know Trent is going to the heavyweight division, but what beyond that? Singles star? Tagging with someone? Staying in Chaos? Going solo?

And what about Rocky? Retirement? Mentoring another tag partner (I could get behind Rocky and Ospreay)? Singles Jr division? Staying in Chaos?

Sad to see Roppongi Vice end but excited about Trent's future. I think he's really underrated.

And Rocky Romero is a legend at this point:
1X IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion
8X IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion
3X ROH World Tag Team Champion
3X CMLL World Light Heavyweight Champion
1X NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion

Won 11 total world tag titles with 4 different partners (Davey Richards, Ricky Reyes, Alex Kozlov, Trent Baretta) and 5 total world junior heavyweight titles.

Yeah I agree with you a 100% man. I really wanted to see a RPG Vice run with the ROH World Tag Titles. I feel robbed. Rocky should be proud of his career. I remember when he was with The Rottweilers thinking he was underrated, but man, he has gone on to have a better career than I ever thought he would.

So over the past few years, I've set up a thread here in the "Wrestling Discussion" section specifically dedicated to the G1 Climax. Would people like me to do that again for this year, or are people ok with just keeping those discussions in the NJPW thread? I like doing the separate threads so it doesn't clutter up the main New Japan thread, but it's up to you guys. Which would you prefer?

I don't need separate threads.
G1 Climax is 4 weeks long tour and become hot topic will be last 3 days.

Who's everyone picking to win the G1? Don't think he's the favorite, but i'll pick Ishii.

Is there really 18 FULL shows in less than 30 days?? If these are 3 hours shows, it's going to take some time to watch all of it.

Disappointed to hear about Shibata's injuries. First match i watch of his, it seemed like he had star written all over him.
